What is up with all the bitching, preening, and crap going on these days in the local kiteboard scene?
Get out, fire it up, and share the stoke... no matter what lights your fire... Right now my fire is buring for BASE!

How do I learn to basejump? Do you need to skydive first? |

Aim for 150 skydives, although if you go intensively for 5-6 months prior to BASE jumping... you could get away with less. This is to dial in your familiarity with the equipement, flying your body (although this goes to hell in handbasket at sub-terminal, but at least you are comfortable plummeting through the air), but most importantly gives you good canopy control.
With that said, your initial jumps are PCA (Pilot Chute Assisted) and if you don't panic it is as simple as stepping off the edge. If the conditions are optimal, the canopy control and landing are pretty easy. But, optimal conditions are not typical and head/tail winds can quickly complicate things. Fortunately, Twin Falls and the Perrine Bridge (the only year round legal BASE bridge) is only a seven hour drive away.
Is your life worth taking shortcuts??? Probably not... My last five years of skydiving, paragliding, speed wing flying, have all been leading up to really getting going in the BASE thing. Now that I am BASE jumping the one real important skill that I have developed in the last five years that is going to keep me as safe as possible? Good judgement and the abilty to say no and walk away from a situation that is beyond my abilities.
Hop on the path, the end is worth all the effort!
