Thu May 26, 11 11:57 am Anybody ever try Woahink or Siltcoos Lake? |

We're thinking of heading down that way next weekend. Looking for a good place for Newbie to get his ass kicked. I know I would be pretty close to Floras but might not make it that far down.
Thanks !! |

Even if there was supposed to be much wind this weekend you would not really want to kite there.
people think that lakes are safer... they really aren't. At least not those two.
You want to think big open space without alot of people around..
AKA Alot of oregon coast beaches.. |

Yeah it sucks. You need a boat as the lakes are tree lined down to the water. Wohink is to small for a good fetch and silcoos can turn on you in a second. Go to the Florence south jetty. _________________ MS |

What determines whether a location is a good kiteboarding spot has more to do with having good and safe launching and landing of kites rather than the actual water that you might eventually be riding.
Those 2 lakes don't have good or safe access points to launch and land kites thus they will never be good kiteboarding spots. You could probably do some kind of risky drift launch after dragging your gear thru the jungle, go kite after an iffy launch, then try to set your kite down in the water and recover it all without damaging the kite or yourself. But, that would get old after one day and you would probably never return to do it again.
People have been kiting the Pac NW for well over a decade, most of the good water kiting spots have been discovered and documented by now with the exception of the snow kiting which is still being explored. Stick to the known spots as they can probably provide you with the best session for the given day. |

Thanks for the input. Guess I'll have to stick to the spots already found. That's the adventurous side of me ooosing out. I googled and the lake (cant remember name) just to the northwest has a nice sandy beach but the lake looks like its probably too small. Might work for me to work on starting and crap like that. |

ha ha
bring your boat and snorkel
launching and landing ARE the most important things you can learn
where and when to go are next
Ocean Shores beach is closer to Waldport
the north or south jetties in Florence have access.
if you are thinking practicing "that crap" (your basic skills?)
don't go out past your knees ,but do it in the ocean |

Not to worry...the standard, already-found ocean riding spots have no shortage of adventure. |
