Just a friendly reminder to all kiteboarders who use the Event Site parking lot and grass area.

Our annual agreement with the Port of Hood River providing us with our own kite Pump and Dry section of the Event Site restarts again on SUNDAY MAY 1st, and runs until OCTOBER 1st.

SATURDAY APRIL 30th is the last day for launching and landing at the Event Site (until Oct 1st)
The boundary line will be marked between the line of trees and the east boundary fenceline.

From May 1st - Oct 1st, the pump and dry location is provided for kiteboarders to pump up kites before walking over to the sandbar to attach lines and launch, and for walking your kites back to for drying and packing up when you are done kiteboarding.

Again, a reminder, launching and landing from the Event Site, or poaching riding inside the caution/safety zone is not part of our agreement.
Any launching, landing or poaching by kiteboarders will jeopardize our current privileges and any future opportunities, so please follow the rules that have been agreed upon for us to use this location.
If you are unfamiliar with the rules, please refer to one of the information map/signs installed at the upper section of the Event Site lawn near the sidewalk.
The rules are simple playground rules and are in place for both our safety and other spectator/windsurfers safety.

The CGKA and the Port of Hood River thank you for your continued enjoyment and support of this Event Site access granted to the Kiteboarding community.

thanks pepi for posting.
I had a question in regards to the marina.
I never used it last year, but thought there was a section for rigging and an area that was designated for launching.
maybe I am wrong but I thought it was last year.
Did something change? maybe it is not even a factor due to river levels anyhow.
just figured I would ask about the marina.

Thanks for the reminder Jim!!

The Marina Beach Launch is again open for Kiteboarders to pump/dry and launch/land. (Yup, we've got tons of kite areas this year. Event Site, Sandbar and Marina are all kite friendly park/play areas).

The PUMP and DRY AREA is located on the Eastern portion of the main beach (nearest to the beach bathrooms, downwind of the sunbathers and kids play area).

The LAUNCH and LAND AREA is designated to be further out on the windward(westside) of the Marina Sandbar (not the downwind/eastside towards the bridge - this is no bueno!)

REMINDER - This is recommended as an advanced launch due to the extremely cold snowmelt river water, strong currents, floating debris, Slider Project features, and funky winds. You must have strong upwind boardriding skills as well as capable self-launching and self-landing skills
Also, always give families/beachgoers plenty of safety room, not boosting near beachgoers and always try to stay downwind of any kids or families.

If you are unfamiliar with the rules, please refer to one of the information map/signs installed at the upper section of the Marina Beach.
The rules are simple playground rules and are in place for both our safety and the daily recreational beach users safety.

The CGKA and the Port of Hood River thank you for your commitment to follow these rules that allow us this privilege granted to the Kiteboarding community.

Is this different than police boats?
