...In 1935. Look for "End of Outfall Sewer" marked near the west bank of the main channel of the Hood River below.
Arthur Babitz of historichoodriver.com created an overlay of the 1935 survey map of the Hood River waterfront onto a fairly recent arial photo. Before the dams on the Columbia and the fill material added to the Hood River waterfront in the 1960s, things were lookin' a tad different - huge areas of willow brush, the main channel of the Hood River flowing roughly NW and meeting the Columbia near the east side of the current Event Site, and raw sewage flowing directly into the Hood River.
