Is anyone on this forum from The Tri-cities area? Or, do you know someone who is from the Tri-cities who does Kite Boarding? I am interested in getting in with a group of people to Kiteboard with.

Me too.
We have a group for Tri-cities kiters: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/TCKite/ but we're lacking membership.
Click on "join this group" or send me a message with your email and I'll send an invitation. It'll work if we use it.
Two "local" sites:
The Gap (Port Kelly) is 20-40 minutes away from the tri-cities. Launch is shitty but the scenery is nice and the wind is usually not too punchy like it is on the Columbia in the tri-cities. It doesn't work often. A vid of the area, not my kiteboarding prowess:

If you're willing to drive a bit over an hour, Roosevelt is the shit. Great wind (low gust differential,) good swell, great setup, grass, hot showers. Holiday weekends are a zoo but there are rarely any kiters there mid-week. Figuring out the launch (particularly self launch) can be tricky.
My apologies for taking two years to respond.

Hey, Roseyvelt is usually the call but right close to Herm town are possible spots. Boardman is a good launch, some stickers, but do able.

What about umatilla? Always seems to be windy when I go by, easy launch from the marina...
Blows often when everything to the west is dead.

A friend and I checked out Umatilla a few years ago. We found a few *possible* launches but opted to drive on. I had intended to go to Boardman because I’ve heard people launching there but I think we ended up at 3-mile, which I already knew.
I know of a few other sites out here but haven’t found a compelling reason to explore them yet. Between Roosy and occasionally the Gap or 3-mile, I'm set.
