I have a 6/10/14 Rally quiver and have flown all of the sizes except the 4. The 6 is a really fun kite and flies similar to the 8. So, if you have the 8 you know the flight characteristics. It has good low end for a small kite. The high end is off the hook.
From what I've flown...
The 6 & 8 feel similar. (I fly on the rear setting to slow them down - they'll shoot forward on a powered transition unless you downloop them. Could still be me dialing them in, though.)
The 10 is a dream. (perfect)
The 12 and 14 feel similar. (little slower but still nimble and fun for larger kites. can jump easily in light air.)
If you already have an 8/10 and like them, go with the 6. You probably will never find the top end of the kite. I also like to stay with the same model kite for my high and mid size kites. When you're putting up your high wind kite, you want it to be a kite you are comfortable with because it is going to be a nuking day. Why buy something that is going to behave just differently enough that you'll need time to adjust.? If you just downsize in the same kite you were flying, the only change you'll notice is that you're having more fun! |

I have a full RPM quiver 6 - 12. All 4 kites are 2010.
I love my RPMs. I have around 100 days on them in the gorge,Oregon coast, San Carlos waves and LaVentana.
They are good for all styles of riding. The bar pressure is perfect (it's adjustable) and the kites seem to read my mind.
I like the RPMs because I like to play with the kite. I try to turn and ride swell as much as possible so I'm constantly flinging my kite around. The RPMs are perfect for this style.
If you like to put your kite at 10 or 2 ... then the RPM is not for you. The Rally is more suited to a 'set it and forget it' style.
For side-on waves (Oregon), I really need to work the kite when I'm on a wave. RPM is good for this style. I'm sure the Rally is ok too.
For side-off (San Carlos), when you can park the kite and surf the wave - RPM is just ok, Rally is probably better. |

I have rode both and really like both. I ended up on 2011 RPM's 10m on down because I think the new split struts look super cool on the RPM's. You are reading this correctly. I turned my perfectly fantastic 2010 RPM's for 2011 RPM's purely on style points. I did not demo them before I bought them.
I have since been out on the 10 2011 RPM, lookin' all style-like, and love it.
Shallow, but honestly yours,
