Has anyone ever heard of or seen a "commie cooker"?
It was a portable twig-fired aluminum cook stove used by the north Vietnamese army.
I've only seen one in operation once and it was amazing. When assembled, it sort of looks like a fat flying saucer. When disassembled, it's parts nested and it was kind of wok shaped.
The vet I saw use one cooked about 5 of us a steak and potatoes dinner with just a few hand fulls of twigs. Really impressive.
It was super efficient and light weight. Perfect for backpacking. I want one. Anyone even know it's real name?
Sorry for this WAY off topic post, but I've been looking for one of these for years without any luck. I've tried dozens of search terms, but no joy. This is a big forum and full of hikers and campers and I figure maybe I'll get lucky.
I'd appreciate any tips you can offer for locating one.

Those guys fought smart and brave and kicked our ass. You've got to respect 'em.
The real bad asses appear to be the Fins. Don't fight the Fins in the winter...

Yes they did and no they did not. Actually we kicked butt every which way but loose when we were allowed to by our political leadership. The lessons that many politicians did not learn were: War sucks, period. Only fight one if the alternative is worse. If you have to fight a war, fight it hard and fast. have an objective, give it to the military, and don't tell them how to achieve it. If you don't like that, stay the hell out of the war. Most of the time the correct answer is to stay the hell out of the war. When that isn't a palatable solution, pull out all the stops, kill the enemy and end the war. We were not allowed not do that in Viet Nam; our political leaders were idiots... Either stay out of a war or win it in two weeks, regardless of enemy casualties. Anything else is bullshit. And very rarely is the correct answer anything other than stay the hell out of the war.
