Going to Brazil this Nov to kite and was wondering if anyone knows of a good place to stay in either Cumbuco, Paracuru or Jeri?? Anything under $150 usd/night is what I'm hoping to find. Any suggestions at all much appreciated!
Thanks

If you'll be there for a few weeks hit up all of those places. Also check out Ilha Do Guajiru on your way to Jeri/Prea. Stay at Windy Addiction...the owner is a cool dude who supports KB4C. It'll cost you around 40$ per night and homecooked dinners for ~10$. Not to mention the riding is fantastic that time of year.

Jesus for that kind of money you can stay wherever the hell you want in cumbuco.

I would get a reservation at Durobeach hotel on the water. All euros. Its a sweet spot near the town center and very nice. Usually booked in the high season. You can stay in other waterfront hotels for $50 a night and have kiting outside your door. Or get a cheap room for $8-10 a night. night life is good in Cumbuco and great in Jeri. does not exist anywhere else though. Jeri is pricey and in your high range. Mosquito Blue is the best hotel there.

If you go to Ihla get the lobster dinner from the local drunk fisherman its outstanding and dirt cheap. Also check for tides, it varies lot.

First stop Furaifun guest house (pousada) in Cumbuco ( 40 min. gypsy cab ride $ 45 ). They run a nice place , but breakfast is a included but a little sparse. He takes credit cards. Duro beach does also, but its a bigger hotel that attracts crowds. Expensive for what you get.

-Cauipe lagoon (very close to Cumbuco / Fortaleza) is small and full of locals going full retard in tight quarters. If you go make it on a weekday.

- Ilhe de Guagiru ( the inland sea) - Not my favorite. sharp rocks, and only kiteable on high tide, fishermen in water w/ big nets , limited difficult access to ocean, skip it.

-Kiting not that great in Lagoinhas (windshadow). Paracuru is 5 km. from beach, no facilities on beach.

-Get money before you leave Fortaleza and Cumbuco. A working ATM is as rare as a three legged leprechaun. neither Jeri nor Prea have machines.
I found ATM's in : All airports ( best bet) , Fortaleza airport, Cumbuco gas station (sole machine in the town) , Itarema, Trairi, Cruz, and Gijoca ( 20 min. from Jeri).

Most Posadas ( bed and breakfasts ) DONT have credit card readers. I made sure I stayed at the ones that did so I didnt have to carry lots if cash. There are NO large hotel chains anywhere along this coast that I saw. I only went to two restaurants in Jeri that took cards. Dont bring US dollars or travelers checks both worthless here.

I stayed at these in order traveling north from Fortaleza to Jeri :

-You cant really kite IN JERI. I found this weird. Most folks that stay in Jeri take a bus or get a ride to Prea to kite everyday. You can also ride just downwind of Jeri and go northwest. The beach just on the other side of the dune in Jeri is very gusty.
- I would just spend a bit more ( $80/night) and stay in Prea at either Villa Prea or Roncho do Peixe.
-Most people wear maybe a rash guard and thats it. Its very warm . Im a wimp so I did bring a super thin 0.5 mm long sleeve neoprene top for the sunset downwinders which bring a little chill to the air.

I used buggy drivers most everyday. Kiting in Prea and D-winders past Jeri are stuff of dreams.
-You need a Visa talk to my buddy Al at
Brazil Feista. He will make it happen for you painlessly. http://www.brazilfiesta.net/touristvisas.html

-stop reading this .... Go book your tickets...

Hope this helps !

Wishing you warm winds,
e

Great post. Listen to MasViento. I would avoid lagoons in general. There very small, super crowded. Downwind wave riding in Prea... thats the stuff.

Skipping Ihla do Guarjiro, maybe.. it was gusty and smaller than expected but worth a day or two if tide is right and time allows. The Euros overcharge for dinner so eat at the locals hotel. Much better.
