Not posting pictures since the video on the GoPro site shows the back well.
First off, it changes the gadget from convenient to bulky. There's no way around it. With the back on, waterproof housing, and the base it all adds up to 235g or ~8.25 oz. It feels like small brick and it is no longer small.
The benefit is the instant feedback, improved aim, etc. Easier time decrypting codes during the setup definitely helps too. But unless you don't have you laptop handy and you really need to see your recording right away it is not worth $80.
I haven't compared battery life with or without the LCD but I suspect it will be a factor too. |

That's about what I expected. I don't have a GoPro yet but when I get one I suspect this would be nice for reviewing your footage without having to drag your laptop along and worry about it getting stolen. Also it would be useful for showing people on the beach that awesome trick you just did.
Have you been riding with the LCD on it all the time? I imagine if I get one I will ride without it and then attach it on the beach to see my footage; or maybe just have it on when I am trying to make sure the shot is lined up and then removing it and closing the housing. _________________ Captain kook; always wrong. |

I'm sure the next version of GoPro will have the camera integrated and will be the same size as the original camera.
There's just no way around the current accessory adding bulk...if you have to build two plastic cases and provide connectivity, the shit'll get big.
I agree that I'll probably skip the screen option. Seems like a good thing to keep in the car, though, if you want to plug it in a do a quick check on your footage. That's certainly easier than hauling a laptop on your trip... |

if you are going to use a gopro on anything that will be taking an impact, I'd suggest not using the lcd expansion. the extra weight will only fatigue those little ears even more...
while I think its cool to be able to view a clip while at the beach, I'm not sure how easy that will be .
I can't say too much because I don't have the display pack and haven't seen the user interface.
I'm thinking it might be harder than it seems to be able to sift through 10 minutes of footage to show your buddies that certain clip. probably kill your battery while doing so.
might be cool to sit around at dinner watching it with your buddies though.
I think it will be helpful if you intend to setup a shot and need to find the limits of the wide angle frame. or just taking pictures.
I love that they made it an expandable device so you can still use the camera by itself. _________________ www.jimstringfellow.com |

I'm with you there. The whole reason it isn't built in is so they can keep the size/weight down correct? Having it as an addon is certainly useful but still allows them to keep the core as compact as possible. Maybe one day they will come out with a bigger addon screen specifically designed for viewing it on the beach which will have some extra buttons to make viewing it and getting to the middle of a video easier. _________________ Captain kook; always wrong. |
