Here's some photos from yesterday on Mt. Hood. Great conditions with a full mix of snow. Unreal scenry kiting in the blue-ice-rimed crater.

Nice work! What was the wind direction? The spot looks pretty darn sweet!

Yeah Ken, this is what forums are for, to share the stoke, and to get inspired by great sessions.

Way to get after it, that's quite the grind. Was the wind direction NE? If so pretty rare day, hope to see you soon ....

BTW, the snow is still cold and sugarly out here.

For those who may not know, Ken will kick the ass of most really good alpine racers. The difference being Ken will do so on tele boards.

The best wind direction for the south side of Hood is SW, S, SE. It vary rarely blows from S or SE. When it does blow from SW it is usually whiteout conditions above treeline.

This day it was W. On a west we have found that at Timberline Lodge it is blowing west but because of the cone shape of the volcano the wind becomes more and more north as you ascend. Which was the case on Thursday. Once you get up inside the crater, the wind is swirly from all directions. Kinda fun and keeps you on your toes.

I have pumped up and launched from the parking lot. The management does not like kiters to do that (even though they are kiters themselves). So, it is best to step outside their boundary before launching. On the more east wind days you can launch very close to your car on the east side of the parking (and on the edge of WR Canyon). The next closest spot to launch is a short traverse west from about 1/2 way up the Magic lift.
