I work in forest products right now and I see all they do to try and help the enviroment. FYI the run-off into river problem is created by the state, they approve the logging area and they mess up alot! Not much for brains in that state department.

Point taken...I'm sure in a lot of cases, the logging companies are just doing as they're instructed by the land owners and/or the State. And logging practices have definately improved, but hasn't that been a result of government regulations vs. logging companies caring about the environment over profits?

Anyway, seems like we all agree...this plover thing is a different bird. Wink

Different bird, but same law.

You might think that kiting is more benign than logging, but the point is that the greenies have taken the endangered species law and are using it like a club. Doesn't feel so good when it's your activity getting whacked.

It's not about compromise and balance, it's about shutting activity down and leaving things "pure".

It seems like the tidal zone should stay open to human activity. Like if a bird nests there, the nest is going to get some wave action. Maybe that's why it's endangered?

Unless they are the ones accessing the land, because, they alone are good stewards of the environment and can decide what is right and wrong. Remember the backpackers that wanted to shut down snow kiting on federal land. No logic, consideration, or balance was used because it did not serve their agenda.

Not always - check out the demise of the Pacific Lumber Company:
Quote:

Between a desire to turn a higher profit and the need to start paying off the debt incurred from acquiring Pacific Lumber, Hurwitz's Maxxam replaced the sustainable growth policy of the previous owner-managers (primarily the Murphy family) with one of clearcutting.[12]

But I agree there should be a balance and banning kite surfing is silly.
