....from your local Wainman Hawaii crew!
Matt Thames (aka Solflyer) and Alex Peterson went exploring out in the backcountry of Bend and scored some fresh pow and wind...luckily Sebastian Tronolone was there to document it all. Its early in the season so I'm sure there is plenty more to come!

Looks pretty cool.

Has anyone on here ever kite-ski'd? It seems like it would be pretty awkward unless you were going mostly downwind due to the kite pulling perpendicular to your skis. Looking at the video it seems like there is a lot of twisting going on at the hips and knees that might cause issues. Anybody know if that is accurate or not?

You're kidding right? Rolling Eyes Ever seen a Snowkite film, maybe Bjorn Kaupang in action?

There is so much sick shit you can do on ski's behind a kite it's not enough funny.

fyi: We've been ripping, RIPPING, on skis for years! Except for a few borders (very few at that) no one keeps up with us skiing under a kite.

I have done both, ski(telemark) and snowboard. Skis were much better for several reasons.
With skis you can walk around without sinking
You can set up get tension on your lines, self launch/land etc.
If you get stuck in the backcountry with a snowboard it is a bitch to get out. With skis, you can pack up your kite, throw on some skins, extend your poles and have a nice trek out.
I do like to snowboard and ski but not with kites.

Not true if you have a splitboard & skins. I see the minimal advantages of skis & they aren't worth it to me. But then I never liked skiing. That's just me though - to each their own.

Lewmt,

I have not had a whole lot of luck getting great conditions for a snowboard maybe that is the problem. I could see having fun riding some fluffy pow with a snowboard. I just havn't had that opportunity yet.
If I lived in the Rockies, I am sure I would enjoy riding a snowboard more often with a kite.

Good point on the splitboard as an option to get yourself out of trouble.

Our conditions favor skis for me here in the NW. I have seen some of my friends out having a good time on their board while I was on skis, so either way works.

Two of my favorite snowkiters showing the world that snowkiting doesn't have to revolve around foils. Props keep up the good filming see ya soon at the GTO. Merry Christmas to all.

Nice video Chooch, that is some stoke.

Here is a technical question, why can you float so well on snow and not as long on water? Is it the density of the air? The hilly terrain? Just curious, in the video, these guys can float around for a few seconds and it looks damn fun.
