Headed there in Jan. Can handle myself on the water but would like
to rent Equipment and maybe take a lesson if necessary. Anyone with
recent experience at Kailua beech with lessons/rentals? |

Call the Naish shop in Kailua. Friendly folks when I was there in Nov. They'll hook you up. |

Naish and others. Also an instructor who regularly adverts on craigs list. I think he is legit.
Have fun, I love Kailua/lanikai. Don't miss the swap at aloha stadium, sunday I think. Hanauma bay, go early and often, calm days.

The Naish shop is great. These guys are great too: http://www.hawaiianwatersports.com/kiteboarding/ Both of those shops often have a rental truck outlet right at the beach. There's also a small rental shop near the beach, about half a short block to the beach entrance. Look for the kayak rental place. A number of guys also advertise lessons on craigslist. I don't think anybody rents kites, just boards/harness.
BTW, you can find beach house room rentals in Kailua for about the same price as a room in Waikiki. If you want the mellow beach experience, stay in Kailua/Laniki. If you want to party till 4:00 AM every night, stay in Waikiki.
If big waves come in on the North Shore, be advised that you'd better get up there early, very early, to go up and watch. The traffic is a nightmare when the big waves are there.
Hale'iwa on the North Shore used to be a chill place to go see, but is now just a tourist trap IMHO. Surfing is still good though. |

Welcome!!
yeah no kite rental tho..you can rent boards.when you say you can handle yourself on the water what do you mean in concrete kiteboarding skills?
Check out kiteoahu.com for our beach rules..we have a forum there too...
For lessons be a little careful...some hacks hand out there... caveman kiteboarding (Tony) is good..or like they said the Naish store will hook you up with an instructor...

Also check out Jeff Tobias' new shop for lessons- www.windwardwatersports.com both Jeff and Tony are great instructors and safe, friendly and extremely knowledgeable about the Kailua area. There hasn't been any wind for a while so we are due! |
