Hola,
Looking for a Nikon long lens to shoot sports and some travel stuff. I have a digital SLR (D50) and it is a decent camera. Love to get a fast 70-210, or a ?-300MM. Looking for something in the $600-$1000 range. Any help from some of you great shooters/pro's is most appreciated!!

Thanks,

Lance Larivee

Hello ,
I have shot a few different of the pro level nikkor 70-200 f/ 2.8 . and have owned two different models. The older one is 70-200 2.8 w/ VR which is solid pro build and is the standard for PJ and sports that dont need huge reach. Great lens but will make your wallet $ 1700 lighter. It does allow you to use the 1.7 and 2 X tele convertor.
The older 80-200mm f 2.8 w/o the VR feature also great a little slower to focus and cheaper at $ 800. Both these lenses are quite heavy unless you are used to carrying pro gear.
The more recent and cheaper option is the Nikkor 70-300mm f 4.5-5.6 is a nice lens, but i have no experience with it. Gets good reviews and is much lighter. It would be good for most daylight outdoor sports. not anything in low light. Bargain at about $ 550.

Here is a review : http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/70-300-vr.htm

The above web site has great non-biased reviews on most ANY lens Nikon ever made.
Good luck, happy shooting.

My dad and I have 2 D90s. AMAZING! Check out bhphotovideo.com

They know more than anyone about camera gear and the coolest store to go in if you are ever in NY, NY. Check out their live chat.

If you are looking for a lens that shoots sports specific. my one word of advice is F stop is the secret to success, don't be fooled by a lens that says it is a 300-800 if it shoots in f8. all your pics will but super dark.

Just my 2 cents
