This is what happens when nothing progressive is happening in kiting. haha! That was really cool though, that's one of the first times I've seen a windsurfing video where the dude actual lands the airs and rides away rather than just splashing down with no speed. |

Wow its like sking it goes away for a few years while snowboarding is the thing ta do and comes back cooler then ever.
How many years would it take to get anywhere close ta doing tricks on a pole board?
Im sure once kiting loses its luster this is what the youngsters will be up to. |

I'll take that bet.
Have you ever witnessed how much of a pain in the ass it is to rig and de-rig pole surfing gear? Getting in and out of the water with heavy gear in precarious areas, with the wind honking? Plus the amount of gear one needs? What a pain in the neck.
That is not to say I don't appreciate people doing this sport; at one of my favorite places on the coast these people really are an utter joy to watch. They are so smooth and silky on the waves.
I'm just saying kiting is so much easier to rig and to transport gear. Plus kiting can be done in the snow. . . can't really do pole surfing on the mountain or at least I have not seen it yet.
I think most of these factors will keep the young ones reaching for kites vs sails and poles. Last edited by Sasquatch on Wed Nov 10, 10 2:10 pm; edited 1 time in total |

Those are some pretty advanced moves. It's a heck of a lot easier to spin like that on a kite. _________________ Windance Boardshop- Hood River

Amount of gear yes, but as far as launching goes it's really not that hard, especially in nuking winds (compared to kiting) I can rig up my windsurfing gear in about the same time as it would my kite and takes less area. the biggest pain really is having to carry your gear which isn't all that bad if you have the strength and technique _________________ BIP- "YOUR GIRLFRIENDS FAVORITE" |

That dude rips!
That push to forward that dude throws at the end is INSANE!
Windsurfing is SO difficult! Utter most respect for my fellow "pole smurfers"..and string boarders!!
Being severely addicted to both sports (kite/windsurf) I would agree that the sport of kiting would be more attractive to most. However, the stoke of being fully lit going a gazillion miles an hour is very hard to beat...especially when it took you 5 years of shloging, up-hauling, falling, and your life savings amount of gear to get to that point!
I would agree that snowkiting totally trumps the alternative..but windsurfing has a BRAND NEW TECHNOLOGICAL BREAKTHROUGH - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NfKnCx3Oq4c&feature=related _________________ Get it while its good! |

Great video!
That guys got some sick skills and those who haven't put in years at it would have a hard time realizing the degree of difficulty.
Windsurfed in the gorge for many years way back in the day living in a 1965 blue Dodge van covered in stickers and enjoyed many fun sessions w/ good friends.
However when blowing 40 + I still feel much safer on the windsurfer *that's gathering dust since learning to kite about 8 years ago.
Traveling w/ kite gear is no comparison to traveling w/ bulky windsurf gear and awhile back golf bagged everything to kite/camp on an outer Bahama Island sleeping on a tarp atop a pile of seaweed on a pink sand beach for 3 weeks and had a blast!
*Now addicted to coconut water more than ever... mmmm
Good winds,
Donnie |
