The article says the surfer was from Toulouse, France, and the accident occurred in St. Jean de Luz which is a beautiful town in the Basque Country in southwestern France. This is very sad indeed, and the comments show how little people understand our sport. I was just in St. Jean de Luz a few months ago - it's very beautiful but I wouldn't have guessed it great for wind though. The picture they show in the article is the popular beach in Biarritz, by the way, not St. Jean de Luz (which is home to Roxy/Quiksilver).

Gotta explain to me if the wind speed was gusting to 50 mph , how did he get moving 100 mph . And how did they know he was going 100 mph ?? love the media
overdramatizing things they are ignorant to.

More info from my French friend (mais je n'avais pas de Silverlight):

http://jt.france2.fr/20h/ need to select Archives: Lundi 8 .

It is the first headline. The kite incident is at time 4’20”

They are talking about 130 Km/h gusts in some locations, and > 5m waves, but the incident happened before the storm really hit so they actually do not say the gust speed.
