Nice pics! Cool to see people kiting there. I live in Utah but visit my dad who lives in Ocean Shores. I haven't been there long enough to get any wind and end up further down the coast or back at the Gorge to kite. Looks like a good place to ride. It would be cool to hook up sometime with some kiters that know the area. Probably wont make it back real soon but anyway. Any info or links to info on riding Ocean Shores? Thanks for posting! |

I can see the jetty in the background on some of those shots. Are you kiting Ocean Shores or it looks more like you are kiting north of the south jetty at Westport? Given the size of the swell this last weekend, it makes more sense that to be Westport rather than the open beaches at Ocean Shores. Either way the photos are killer, and looks like great winter kiting.

Pictures 2 and 5 were north of the Ocean Shores jetty, where the beach is a little more exposed. Those were from a downwinder when the swell was around 12 ft. As the swell picked up thru the weekend (to mid twenties by sunday afternoon) I was riding at Damon Point just inside Gray's Harbor since the exposed beaches get ridiculous. There's a couple different fun breaks there depending on how big the swell is and the wind direction. You can actually catch waves out in the middle of the channel between the westport and ocean shores jetties...sketchy but really good. Also the shorebreak at Damon Pt gets pretty fun as the swell wraps into Gray's Harbor.
For all the flatwater enthusiasts there's also buttery smooth water on the other side of the spit.
I usually camp right there at Damon Point (last pic), steps away from riding and a hot shower. _________________ "all I need are some tasty waves, a cool buzz, and I'm fine."
