Couldn't agree more its the fairest way PKH.

I'm the kinda guy that the more I see everyone pointing to one kinda kite or brand I'd buy something completely different just based on the principle even if it is better.

Demo's and putting that bar in my hands sells me everytime!!

There are two main arguments why gear vs gear threads get the lock down.

1. It leads to pissing matches.

2. It is of no value. people's opinions are like their own assholes - every one seems to like their own better than the next guys.

1. I agree that comparing brands can lead to pissing matches. I've seen it on this forum and plenty of other forums. However, it doesn't have to lead to pissing matches. Look at Monkey's thread when he asked about a small kite for high winds. Everyone kept it cordial. I have also seen other forums manage gear vs gear threads - and they can make it work.

2. people's opinions are worthless. I completely disagree. Yes, people will generally say the kite they fly is better. But there is a wealth of knowledge on this forum - we just choose not to share it with the other kiters cus we are afraid of kite pimps and cry babies. Look at Monkey's thread asking about high wind kites. I learned a lot about other kites. People can compare notes.

Also, its fun talking about gear. Go to other forums on other topics like mountain biking or snowboarding and they talk about the gear cosntantly. Thats what we do. I'm constantly looking at new gear and what is coming out (i'm not always buying - mostly just browsing).

Some say the answer is demo. Demoing gear is helpful but not the end all and be all when it comes to buying gear. First, some of us are not in the new kite market. many of us are exclusively in the used market. So I need to compare an 09 11m Rev with an 09 10m Havoc. Going to be hard to demo the gear cus no shop is selling that stuff (new at least). And not all people who are selling their kites are going to meet you out somewhere and let you demo their gear.

Comparing gear also helps out newbs. Theres a lot of talk about growing the sport and getting some respect. (I have my own opinion on this topic - but there is a strong contingency of people who want to see the sport grow). If you want the sport to grow then you gotta get new people into the sport. We can help these new people out by helping them pick out their gear. how many new people buy the wrong shit cus some guy is looking to off load a kite and doesn't care who he screws over. I for one bought the wrong gear to start out with. And when I first joined nwkite I posted questions revolving around gear v. gear - but it got the lock down. it would have been helpful for me as a newb to know what general gear to look for and what general gear to stay away from. I could have saved myself a grand if I had some general guidance.

And Comparissons are a natural part of describing gear. I know we can describe one kite and say it does this and that and what not. But it is helpful to have some basis of comparisson. When someone says a kite turns fast. Fast compared to what? A 17.5 SS Machine? A 5m waroo? Or light bar pressure? Or how it sits in the window. Uh, yeah, the kite sits pretty far back? WTF does that mean? Farther back than what? Than a waroo? A fuel? A rabbit? Give me some point of reference.

One more thing about demoing. yeah, demoing is great, but you can't get everything you can from your first (or even second) ride. I added an 09 11m Rev to my quiver this past season. Pretty sweet kite - but I was still learning stuff about the kite even after my fifth or sixth session on the kite. there are a ton of little quirks in each and every kite and one or two demos is simply not enough to know if you should drop two grand on some nylon stitched together and a couple of yards of strings.

just buy some new shit ,then off it it you don't like it ,
way mo betta for selling kites ,,,ha ha
never thought of it
see, learning shit already

Some persons on this forum and others I have learned to apperciate thier input
and it's not always bs
regardless of the source we are all better off with more information (even bad info)
just because it tells us who is full of it

nothing tells the tale like time on the kite, and some are very deft at telling thier expierences
just because some pimps can't handle it Rolling Eyes
most are somewhat objective in their product

I completely agree with Mr.Moto

stop whining and go kiting

This rule has worked for us over the years. If you want to fight about my kite is better then your kite then go to kiteforum. We are too small of a community to be arguing...and you all know that's what happens.

Yes, very good point. Kiting trumps whining. Any wind anywheres today?
