Has anyone tried kiting downtown PDX? Is it possible to launch from waterfront park? Seems doable. Maybe a better launch and wind direction on the East side. Just curious. River is pretty nasty downriver of the Fremont bridge.

Launching from Oaks park is probably the best for this area(east side). (viento) has kited a number of times from this site. There is a stairway over by the dance pavillion down to the sand. The beach faces wnw , side shore. Fairly light winds generally.

Rarely possible since the downtown landscape curves back from East to West, therefore blocking wind.

Actually, it's not photoshopped. Mark kited downtown back in the fifties, when the world was still in B&W. The reason the kite is in color is that it was a prototype.

Thanks I think.....
Yeah it's me on a 18m Torch back in 2006. Crappy wind for sure. Best part was when I came to shore right in the middle of a bunch of bums. They thought it was cool and offered me some of their wine!
