This bashing of windsurfing is such bullshit.

Windsurfing is incredibly difficult and I give huge respect to those who do it.

Windsurfers, back in the 80's, were pushing harder into experimentation than kiters are now.
They were making their own boards and pushing the limits of wave riding with low tech ---- no computers cutting out the sails and boards---- like kiting.

The personal computer had not even come into full play.
Windsurfing was pretty damn renegade.

The kiteboarding industry will suffer the same demise if it does not 'bring back the fun' and ditch the teeny bop bullshit and bashing of other wind sports.

Taking everything to the ultimate extreme is not always good for a sport.

I would hope that any kiter of today would have been in on the windsurfing movement in the 80's..........so it's bullshit to bash it.

Hey Scott,

What is that green board in the third from the bottom? Home made? If so, that guy had some vision for shape because that didn’t come into vogue until sometime in the mid 90’s for board shape.

I assume home made.
Swallow tails were experimented with in surfing in the 70's and 80's so I am sure it's just an offshoot of that movement.

These photos are from an Australian windsurfing site.

There is a retro movement going on in Australia----young Aussie kids are buying up cheap retro gear and messing around on it.

Bringin it back.
cool to see.

Ha.

Just saying it's ironic to see the two sports, in a similar industry, play out similar marketing plans.....yet claim to be so different.

It reminds me of Whiskey Militia dot com.

I was watching the new windsurf movie from Naish the other day..there is a guy that does a back roll and forward roll in the same jump...with a friggin windsurf rig...it looked unreal...

sure as hell made me want to learn windsurfing...even if I will never ride anywhere near a level like that...

I think it looks like fun. Yet another way to get in the water...

[quote="scottnorby"]This bashing of windsurfing is such bullshit quote]

We shouldn't be bashing on wind surfing as a whole, IMHO, just the ones that are anti kite.. the ones that try to run you off a wave or don't mind the sailing rules when engaged with kiters.. the POLE SMOKERS who give attitude ie.. "this launch is a wind surf spot"
They are kin to the skiers that where anti snowboard in the 80's 90's and still at some places (ALTA) but that place is run by an entity that has the right segregate...

no wind surfer has any more right to a launch or section of the riv then anyone else...but the ones with the attitude that they do are the POLE SMOKERS whom need and are asking for a bashing.
