Forgive me for piping in here about "the secret spot," but... my understanding has always been that the only access issues at Lyle, notwithstanding the current situation with the fire, are crossing the tracks or heading in under the bridge (not that I, nor anyone else, would have the wherewithal or drive to rappel down there, or climb back up for that matter). I haven't been out there since last summer, but I'm assuming people still kite there, and I wouldn't think it should be any problem getting there by water, e.g., boat, ski, kayak, etc.? Once the fire situation is under control, of course, as Nak points out...

Your spot on Tommy...if you can get to the sandbar without crossing the tracks your good to go. Like Forrest said the sand bar is public land and your free to use it whenever you like.

From the Lyle Community Council:

"Lyle Sandbar Information: The Lyle Sandbar is currently closed to kiting, and the parking area at the corner of SR 14 and old highway 8 is closed as well. Railroad law enforcement officers and police will be enforcing the parking and kiting bans."

Please continue to stay away, it's just a bummer it only mentions kiting, feeling selected against.

Not to hijack the thread, but 2nd Wind Sports has the perfect solution for getting to Lyle (when it's open) and other spots that require transit over deep water.

Yakka 120 Folding Kayak - If you click the link you'll find these folding kayaks retail for $699 and up.

Three of these are left in stock on closeout for $399 including seat and paddle

Cheaper and more compact than a traditional SUP and you can easily fit several kites/boards and beers inside and on the deck. The best part is that when folded one of these easily fits in the back of an Outback or similarly-sized trunk. Just one more tool to GET SOME.

It was an bid item at the auction, think the winner ended up paying around $550.

When the water level is low you can access lyle by chuggy boat launch just downwind of the bridge. Its safe and legit as long as the water level isn't to high Laughing
