I'm on my third trimline and my 2009 Naish bar is showing some wear. I thought the metal inserts were supposed to avoid this kind of wear.

I've kited 2 summers with this bar, probably about 60 sessions, is this wear normal ?? Do other makers' bars wear like this, or just Naish ?? Just wondering.

No that does not seem normal to me. I've had more session on mine than that...

Check the metal inserts that they do not have any sharp edges or or tabs that can increase the friction and wear down the lines...I'm sure you have...btw how do you store your bar?

I dunno what it can be, but it certainly is not normal to have changed your centerlines 3 times in 60 sessisons...

your depower line looks "odd", is there something coating it? why I ask is, sand may be sticking to the line and acting like sand paper enlarging the hole in the bar. I have way more sessions on my '09 bar and the bar looks great. I have replaced the depower line once.

The first two trimlines were stock Naish and I did not wax them. I smoothed off the top edge as it seemed sharp. Maybe the top edge on my bar is missing a flare/trumpet finish ? That would make me feel better about the wear (I bought this bar on eBay, so it might be a beta version bar for all I know). There appears to be only minimal wear from the bottom of the hole, it's all just from the top, so if I'm missing something on the top, that would explain it.

This trimline is coated with wax, I decided to try waxing this one (used a candle). It seems to be working, but turned a darker color, I was thinking the dye from the line got into the wax. I don't see sand sticking to it, but there might be a little. I kite at Manzanita, so lots of sand gets on my bar.

Thanks for the feedback. I really like this bar, was just wondering if other folks had similar experience. Sounds like it's something particular with my bar.

Your bar looks like someone took a drimel to the center of it. See that layer of metal in the hole, that's why I think this. Plus the whole looks awkward. Can someone post a picture of a Naish bar for comparison?

I posted an original bar pic on this thread last year.

I ended up dremeling the top edge a little to smooth out, made second trimline last twice as long.

That's a very abrupt edge on the centerline holes. Maybe you can make a plastic sleeve that fits inside the bar hole, without restricting line movement?
