I still stand by the 6m RPM. This kite is fairly amazing; coming from my 2008 Revs. I fly a 7m Rev almost all the time because I'm 140 wet. But the control, loft and gust absorption is so awesome with the RPM.
I switched to a surfboard so I needed a smaller kite quiver. Eventually going to get an 8m RPM as soon as the end-of-season sales get good. |

Maybe when you all figure out that you can ride with a smaller kite as long as you don't use it like a flag then the kiteboard co's will finally get around to designing some proper small kites. I gave up looking and plan on building my own.
$1000+ for a 4M.

Let us know how it goes. I'll buy a 4m for those 60+ days. |

Don't lock this thread - it's interesting and has been pimp free so far. I would like a kite for really strong wind that didn't fly like a trainer - anyone flown the smallest Best Kahoona in nuked out winds? It looks promising and the price is more palatable for something that wouldn't get as much use as a 9 or 7m |

Well, it WAS choad free until about 3:01.
I've got an 8 without much low end so the 8rpm would be too much overlap. I have heard good things about the cabrinha from others, would probably use a different bar as the cabrinha depower is about as clean as a head full of beaded dreadlocks.
Hein, what did you think of the waiman 6? Chooch is planning on handing it off to me next week. I have heard that they are very smooth. _________________ Bury me standing cause I won't lay down!!

Anyone try a foill for nuked out conditions. I have a flysurfer 8m pulse2 that goes from 18 to almost 30 kts. They are coming out with the new pulse3 this fall with triple depower, the 6m pulse3 might be the money. They sit on the water for a long time and relaunch like any sle, just pull one outside line or pull both for a real quick launch in the surf. |

I didn't try it. and it's a 5 iirc
I'm pulley bar and C-kite forever.
My daughter used it in about 15-30 on the short lines.
She learned on my Generators strapless on a surfboard.
Her comment was that it was a little slow turning when she was
trying to get going in the lighter winds. She probably had it
sheeted out a little too much because of how we had it tuned.
Once she got moving with it there was plenty of power
and it turned fine.
I really liked the look of the lower aspect. It looked really stable
in the air & that is what I've seen when other folks are using them.
I'll bet it would be a perfect high wind kite for larger riders.
It's actually much bigger than my vintage 5M fuels. That's
the case with most of the so-called 5M kites out there.
I scored an old GTO and had it out in a dying 25-35 pulse
at rufus the other day. Now that's a small kite that with some
tuning will be money for me to finally go ride some swell out
east when the wind is touching 40. Until I sew my own.
(which will not be for sale)
Oh and one last point. No bridles, which in high winds is
one failure point I would not want.
Plus Lou is the man and deserves success with his brand.
Payback for being such an innovator in the sport.
In fact my pulley bars are based on a bar he designed and
sold through NSI. I'd be proud to build one for him if he wanted one.
If a Wainman C kite came along. I'd have to have some. |

Fri Aug 13, 10 5:59 pm 7mtr Octane High Wind Perfection, to me! |
|
|
I've had some high wind, 30 to35mph on my 7mtr Octane, 2010 and I love it. I've also kited the Key 7mtr 2010 and it was money.
I was on a strapped surfboard and flew both kites. The key surprised me by being so awesome in the gusts. The Octane was just flawless in high winds as well.
Monkey, so you are having trouble with the 8rpm in high wind? I just got one and I'm still considering keeping my 7 Octane for high ass winds.
I'm not sure what advantage a c kite is going to have for somebody who is used to a SLE? Hein is running a completely different set up on his 5 mtr. I've played with the idea of doing a pully bar because I see Hein doing it so I figure it must be cool, but it frigging hard.
It's funny but I've been on a 10 mtr and seen Eric go out on an 8, thinking wow he's gonna shlog, but nooooooooo. Eric works the kite, just like Hein and makes it to the bridge and has plenty of power.
It seems like comparing the C kite on a pully bar is like comparing blonds to brunettes. Sure, their both girls but every body knows blonds are more fun, right?
I'm just saying. _________________ Hey, I'm being hahahahahrassed! |

For hi winds in the gorge I love my Cabrinha Nomad 5.5!!! It is stable and flies just like a regular 7 or 8 meter kite - none of the ridiculous inversions and such of kites like the Waroo 5m (and no central bridle even if it did freak out). Equally beautiful for those gusting to smoke on the water days in the swell at Rufus when I get to be one of only 4 people on the water while most of the crew is sitting on the beach wishing they had a smaller kite and regular windy days at the sandbar. Next year I am getting a 4 meter as well for the really windy days as I had a few days that I was overpowered on the 5.5 (140 lbs) and I like to be relaxed on my surfboard. |
