Newbie looking to take some lessons in the next few weeks. I read the thread about schools and noticed no mention of Air Pirates up in longview. Does anyone have experience with them. Are they a good place to get a solid foundation? |

Nate is a great instructor, very patient, knowledgeable, and puts in the extra effort to help his students be successful. He teaches in an ideal location for learning as well. I'd highly recommend him!
Welcome to kiting

I have not taken a lesson by Nate. However, I do spend a lot of time at Jones and I have seen Nate instruct on a number of ocasions. I have also heard his students talk about him. Positive - all positive. Everything I have personally observed and overhead is 100% positive. Nate definately helps spread the stoke! _________________ Still rockin gojos, *ssless chaps, and ankle weights! |

I took a couple lessons from him at the start of this month. Three weekends later I am able to ride in both directions and edge upwind. Nate's a great instructor and Jones Beach is a great place to get into the sport - it isn't crowded and it is very forgiving when you get boosted off your board. |

I had 3 lessons from air pirates. I couldn't be happier!! Nate spent alot of off the clock time with me answering my bazillion newbie questions and even helped me pick out gear even though it was used and wasn't buying from him. He definitly is spreading the stoke for the sport and is obvious he loves what he does. I think my lessons went great. Good communication and methods. he noticed when I was nervous or struggling and he stepped me back and went with different approaches till one worked for me. Was patient and safe. I never got boosted or dragged onto beach. Jones is a killer beach for newbs!! Was definitly money well spent. Was riding upwind in no time!! I definitly recommend air pirates kiteboarding. I'm going to go back for a ocean lesson soon. Can't wait to try out the waves!!! |

nates a bud of mine, so i won't go spouting w/ the bias stuff. I was out at jones a couple weeks ago standing on the beach talking to these 2 guys that had been out kiting when i was out. Turns out, they'd been nates students a week or so before. THought it was cool that he made them kiters that quickly.
Jones, in my opinion, is a great place to learn and still one of my favorite places to kite. All kinds of sandy beach to launch/land/lay/drink, very consistent wind, you are usually one of a handful of people there, the beach is elevated above the water (gear recovery), wind is usually side on (also good for gear recovery).
Nate posts on the forum as 'kochease' if you want to PM him |
