Here is a short video I shot at Rufus, attempting some strapless kiteloops. Enjoy!
I'm not sure how to embed a vimeo video, but here's the link:

VERY nice! I'm working on the same thing, but without the loop, was too overpowered...having a hard time getting any height though even though I'm well lit. It's freaking hard putting it all together. I can either catch the board, or get a jump over three feet, not both. .lol.
good luck

Right on dude! Work on getting the height without the grab, then throw in the grab once you're good at keeping the board on your feet. The windier the better for strapless airs.

Hey Nick,
Thanks for the Strapless 101 video on Vimeo. I've been struggling with the Gybe and your video is really helpful.
Cheers,

yeah thanks.
the biggest I'm getting are like 6foot airs without grabs, but only going right. going left I'm trying to catch and jump and just going up maybe 3-4 feet with the board and plopping down...can't seem to get air while grabbing the board. It seems hard to get that whip from the kite with just one hand while trying to lean down and catch the board.
I'll love to see a video explanation of how some of the guys like joey are doing it...although I think he loops his kite too. I'd like to see a jump without a loop for those lit up days when you just don't want to loop it.
I guess it all comes down to practise.
rock on with the strapless,
j

There's your problem, don't worry about sending the kite... you need to focus on getting really good at just doing ollies off of chop (or flat water) with your kite stationary. In lit conditions I typically keep my kite low-ish, and get all of my height from the original pop...if it's blowing 30+ you can get some substantial height just off an ollie. You'll pee your pants when you land your first 10ft air with a powered landing
Once you get better you can start sending the kite a bit higher on take off to get more height, but it's by no means like sending your kite for a boost on a TT. You need a light board and lots of wind, otherwise you'll end up going a lot higher than your board! Try this with 2 hands on the bar, and none on the board...
In this video I was too underpowered to do anything more than small-ish ollies, and that's when I start messing around with things like loops...but imagine a strapless mega loop
By the way, I'm working on 2 more instructional vids from footage from that session: The Duck Tack, and the Ollie. Stay tuned!

I tried a backroll did not come close. But it always seemed to me a backroll off of a steepswell was the easiest move.

Yep, The world famous Stringy Mount! this is an older prototype...supposedly his newer design is more stable. Plus I think when you're underpowered and working the kite, the camera gets kinda wobbly

I was just thinking..
I saw your video about the kite-loop board grab and I think you need a more efficient kite-looping machine to master that trick. As far as I can see your doing it right but the kite is not looping with smooth power.
THe power-band of a Ducati is like a C-kite and the power-band of a Japanese Ninja is like a Thruster. In the ninja is a huge jump in the power-band but any Ducati has a more consistent power.
I'm not an expert but maybe you should try a C kite to see if the rotation and power is more balanced. I hated looping my thruster but when I got my Torches the loops are more smoother and they don't yank me as hard as the thruster. I'm sure your going to pull that trick everytime if you had more stable winds as well as a better kicker.
Anyways keep up the good work.
