and........

(btw, this is my best forum rant to date)

if you commit yourself to showing people to kite both safely and with style, and your going to make yourself available for them when its windy, there is almost no way you can hold down another job. you are ready when the wind blows, anyday, everyday to be on the water.

plus, wind doesnt blow from 9-5. try logging more than 20 hours of lessons in a week. its super hard. just try wearing a wetsuit for 20 hrs a week.

im not bitchin, i just respect kite instructors.

tips are definately appreciated.

whoops, I meant $300 per lesson. I greatly appreciate kite instructors, thats why I didn't complain about the price when I paid it, but a tip on top of that is ridiculous I think.

Would you tip a car dealer for selling you a nice car and hooking you up with a sweet payment plan after you paid $10,000 for it?

Tips are optional right? If you don't think tipping is necessary in a particular circumstance, then don't tip. If you think tipping in general is stupid, then don't tip.

A tip, or gratuity, is a small amount of money given voluntarily as a token of appreciation for a service rendered. We tip our instructors as a way of thanking them for good service. We might also leave a very low tip, or no tip at all, as a signal that the service was substandard.

Brett makes a few really good points that most of us don't ever think about. I think it's worth noting that.

Spike you are an engineering major right? You might want to consider taking some economics and business classes too.

Tips are retarded: you are already paying for service, so why would you "tip for the service" if you've already paid for it. If you value your service higher than what you are charging, fucking charge more and let people decide if they want to pay for it. Same goes for restaurants: waitresses making $200 a night with no higher level education, just because "its not easy dealing with people asking you for things all the time." Really? Then get another job, or charge more for the food so that the waitresses can get paid more.[/quote]

If you don't tip when going out to eat, getting a drink at a bar, haircut, then do it yourself. If somebody does a good job, than 10% is is the least you can do. If I go out for anything 15% if it is average, if better 20% + is the call.

if you can't afford it

stay at home.....

spoken like a real retard who hasn't even been in the water with a kite yet. In general, you shouldn't give people advice about something you don't know shit about.

P.S. NOBODY likes a cheap skate
