skims are fun!
can be challenging in chop and big swell - but gives you something to work on...
I'm usually on a surfboard if the swell is really good - but for average days in the river or anytype of flat or skinny water I like the skim
demo one from Pepi!

A skim is for sure doable in the channel, but given the choice between my skim and surfboard I'll take the surfboard for the channel every time. It's just more fun being able to bottom turn in the swells. My skim is my board of choice in the winter where I ride primarily low tide flatwater bays. Skims are better than surfboards in crowds because you can ride them like a twintip and transition quick if you have to give way to another kiter. I saw Monkey's ad for his skim in the classifieds a couple months ago, it looks sick, I'm surprised nobody's picked it up yet. |

yes, I have a roush loaf which has the option of 4 small fins. this gives the board more flexibility as you can get a bit of traction in the chop and waves. then pull them off and to the flat water thing. I think pepi has some in the shop.
not a true skim and some poo poo the fins but they are fun when the conditions are right.
that said, a surfboard is the best option for swell/waves imo. |

Super fun in the channel, but can be a challenge to find when dragging about for them (they sit just barely above the surface and can take a long time to float back up). Also, when it's windy enough for good swell, the skim can get lifted by the wind and it has an uncanny ability to zero in on the back of your head. Definitely back to the helmet days. |

Skims open up a good time all around. Some are more challenging to ride in the channel than others. As always its a good idea to try before you buy.... I've got the Airush Skims for demo anytime by PM... |

YES!!!!!!!!!!!
I LOVE riding my skim. It's one of the most challenging things I've done. A 2 foot air feels like 20 feet on a skim. and landing it is even juicier. You won't be jumping high or looking cool for your bros, but it's more about if YOU are having fun or not. soul riding I guess. And a few who understand what you are doing might appreciate it.
Ultimately it's what you have the most fun on, that's the whole point of doing it right, having fun?
try it, it's addicting.
