I have been debating weather to post this for a few weeks. But in the end I figure people will discover it any way. I have been kiteing sols at Mosier creek(not rock creek but the big sand bar on the bend in mosier) for the last couple of weeks. The walk is shorter then secrets and the launch is good(I am going to clean out some bushes this eve). I have not tried it in light wind but from 15 to 40 mph it is good. there are some stumps under water near the beach so I get out and into the chanel before i start jumping and then work my way up to the area between the exit and rock creek (two reaches)

I should have said replacement for the old secret spot. I know it is not a secret, but ss was not really a secret peolple have been using it for years. infact one thing no one has said is we have managed to close The Dalles locals favorite swimming hole. |

Isn't there hella submerged stumps there? I think I have been kiting there but not sure if it is the same spot. Just after the tunnel, parking on a dirt pullout on the north side of 14...
oops, I'm thinking of Lyle point. |

The highway is something to consider as well, it's pretty downwind of the launching/landing zone.....seen some little waves breaking on the sand on high wind days though |

Instead of trying to have secret spots, keep them a secret or call them "the really good spot I just found" when you post them on a kite forum. :P |

I called it a new secret spot only to post it as an option for those people displaced from ss. It is in know way a secret, it is just a spot that is alot better than it looks from the hwy and as the only one who has been rideing it I thought I would share. It is not a spot for beginers(hwy down wind) or people who want to go big right on the beach(stumps). But for those of you who like to head up wind from the sandbar or ss to spread out it is an option and I wouldn't mind some company> |
