That scared me for awhile until I realized how old the attacks were... No, but seriously, do you think it'd be dangerous? Discovery point is kind of a bay inside winchester bay so i would be surprised if any sharks were there, but i don't wanna get eaten lol....

missed mike almond (sp?)
shark attacked him in the 90's at chester
super mega scar, saw it myself

a few years later hiked out the jetty to check it in dense fog
and he was back out there solo, killin it

I think he kites now also, still killin it!

who cares about sharks anyways?? thats why I kite
to lazy to paddle, high wave count and dont like to be sitting bait
and its windy more than glassy here in the pnw

If you let the fear of these guys and sharks get you you, you might want to sell your gear. Chances of Shark attack 1:1000000. Body drag around out there for longer than necessary, maybe 1:25000

Go out and have fun. If you ask me, it is worth the risk.

I absolutely agree.. It's funny because all the movies and stuff that I have seen of "sharks attacking kiteboarders" actually all look like the sharks are absolutely terrified of the kiteboarder lol. Does winchester bay have pretty good wind? Should I bring my 9m, 11m, or 14? I am only gonna be able to fit one in the truck because it's gonna have to fit my board and all my dirtbike stuff too (the main reason we're going to Discovery Point is to bike the dunes, even though I have other *ahem* plans) Very Happy

Look on the bright side. If you get eaten by a shark at least you will be famous Mr. Green

I know that down there the winds tend to blow a little harder than the north coast, but I guarantee you that whichever one you leave at home is the one you will need. You better figure out how to pack em all in. Kites do not take up much space anyway. Just leave your spare set of leather ass-less chaps at home. :O)

Lets not forget,
Randly Weldon 1980s
John Forse 1990s
the guy whose board was bitten a couple years ago siletz river mouth
and no doubt several more.
Is windy bay windy hmmmmmmm.
room for only one kite ? no doubt it will be the one you can't use.
The fact of the matter is that sharks are out there by the millions. I have been a commercial fisherman for many years and I can tell you it takes about 5 mins to catch a shark. I would be more worried about driving to winchester bay than being attacked by a shark. However if your worried about being shark bait, take up golf or something. Its the ocean thats where sharks live and they are not out to eat you and they are everywhere. So plentiful its pointless to discuss where they live and when they are home, they are allways home. The locals at windy bay are much worse than the sharks.

Oh and if your going to ride the dunes I would say your worrying about the wrong critters. There are far more people killed and injured at the dunes than by sharks.

Can you tell us where all the movies and stuff are with the sharks looking scared ?. I would like to see that, I am not proud of the fact that I have caught hundreds of sharks. They are a vital part of the balance of the oceans no doubt, but I have never seen a shark look scared.

Swimming and Diving (prob with a bag of speared fish) seems to piss them off more...
