That is a tragic story for the whole family. My sympathies go out especially for the daughter who has now lost both parents at different times before reaching adulthood. She is going to need lots of support from her family and friends. Jeff sounds like a way cool guy with a real sense of adventure and desire to be out there in the elements. High wind sailing or kiting is nothing to be taken as a casual endeavor, be careful when you decide to go for it!!

Sad Sad Sad

What terrible news.

I hope his daughter is holding up through it all.

Not to be disrespectful; but if I could choose, I would go with my harness on.

My prayers go out.

Ya I know Hannah as friend, and i gotta say she is one of the funniest fun, and enjoyable to be around girls that I know. She had recovered so well from the tragic loss of her mom 6 years ago. And I hate to see that another unfortunate event had to fall upon her. One thing I do know that I didnt see mentioned, is that they actually just got back from Colorado the night before( they live there half the year) So it was just a shock to see her at school one day and then hear that her dad died the next mourning, like it feels to me that she didnt even have time to get back into her hood river life, they still probably hadnt unpacked. I am still in shock that something like this could even happen to such a nice girl.

My prays are with Hanah, I hope she can make it through this with a positive attitude.

I think the fund idea is a great one, someone should really get on that, it could make a big difference

Wanted to share with you all that Jefferson was passionate about kiting. Over the past 10 years he was seen down at the sandbar helping people launch their kites and spreading his stoke. He might not have kited but he was a part of the kite community and a major part of the hardcore wind crew.

Super tragic and our hearts go out to his daughter Hannah and his family.

Edited to let stevegriffith22 off the hook.

I can't get this story out of my head. I hope Hannah finds her peace, and Jeff is hanging out with his wife somewhere warm with plenty of wind.

Andy

Wow - super sad story.

Hopefully the last tragedy of the summer as well.

Tragic and sad loss of a fellow river and mountain brother who lived large and rode big. As Boardrider said hopefully this is the last for the summer. Keep an eye out for your fellow wind junkie and please do your "ride by" to get the thumbs up for anyone in the water.

just read this on Temira's blog:

And finally, several people have asked me for information about a memorial fund for Jeff Young’s daughter Hannah. If you don’t know the story, Hannah’s mom died suddenly, with no advance warning, a few years ago. Hannah is 16, and although I’m sure she has plenty of support in the community, she is an orphan and could use what you can spare. Those interested in donating to the fund can visit an U.S. Bank branch and make a donation to the Jeff Young Memorial Fund or they can mail a check to the address below. Thank you for your generosity. Every bit helps.

Jeff Young Memorial Fund
c/o US Bank
1309 12th St
Hood River, OR 97031

i will be sending a check.
