Lifted from the mtbr forum...

The Portland Parks & Recreation Forest Park Single Track Cycling Advisory Committee is holding a Community Open House to get input from the public on options for expanding singletrack riding opportunities in the Park. The committee and the Parks Department will present their findings and recommendations. This will be a unique opportunity to show your support for more single track bike trails in Forest Park!

Notice!

We need every darn mountain biker in this town to show up at the open house for the forest park single track advisory committee scheduled for Tuesday, April 20. The advisory committee is completing their work in the open house will provide an opportunity for bikers to give comment on the current proposal. Bikers have been well represented on the committee including two members of the Northwest Trail alliance board, two members of IMBA, and others, but have struggled to have elements included which we believe are critical to long-term success of the plan. The current proposal includes some options for expanding riding opportunities over the long-term, but may not include any plans to open existing trails to bikers. In addition it may not include many options in the central management unit, which we believe are important to be included.

As it stands, the proposal would include adding some new trails in the South area of the park as well as improving some of the existing fire lanes including fire lane 1, 3, 4 and 5. We believe this is a good start but we think additional elements should be included.

If you attend, please indicate that you support providing short-term increases in access, along with a comprehensive plan to provide singletrack riding opportunities within the park.

The open house will be held from 5:30- 730 at the Holiday Inn express, 2333 NW. Vaughn Ave- tuesday at 5:30.

Tell all your biking friends!

If will personally buy a round of drinks for any nwkiters that can show up!!! Single track trails in Forest Park are LONG OVERDUE. 1,293 acres of urban park and not ONE, no NOT one single shred of single track trails for bikers. In a city that claims it bike friendliness, kind of a shame.

I just posted a bunch of fliers at bike shops and brew pubs in SE Portland. If anyone feels like throwing a few up in NW Portland that'd be great. You can print out the attached Word document near the bottom of this thread on mtbr:

Thanks and see you guys on Tuesday.

Good turn out last night! For those interested the Portland Parks and Rec web site has information and updates: [Forest Park Single Track Cycling]

Specific details and options presented at the open house can be viewed here: [Reference Materials]

We were presented with different options to review and vote on. Summary of changes being looked at:
- Convert and open existing fire lanes to mountain bikes in South and Central Units, depending on information from the Fire Bureau.
Improve/Narrow/Wind/Regreen existing fire lanes/roads open to mountain bikes.
- Create connectors that link existing roads and fire lanes to create loops.
- Trail sharing – opening some of select trails to mountain bikers potentially with day and directional restrictions.

This video was my feedback to Portland Parks and Rec on the type of trails they should build.... Wink
