Me again...feeling a bit narcissistic. Not my style, but I need advice. The Gorge can be uber political about gear and I don't care anymore about what brand (Love ya Tekko, Pepi & Brave Dave). I just need the right gear for my skill level. I need to order a board ASAP.
I did loose my Liquid Force -Aura in Jamaica (Well, I actually had to ditch it - thinking someone would help me out - but that didn't happen). The beach was great, but once you pass the coral reef the swell was super big (17-20 ft-scary & the wind died) and it was some of the weirdest chop - I think that's when the world was having earthquakes. The Aura is fine in the Gorge, LV and I loved it in Padre. Ok, so I need a new board or maybe two. My friend told me about the Brunotti Pro Princess. I like the idea of a wood core. I am seriously interested in it, but heard it's more of a flat water board. I did like my Aura, except in big weird chop in Jamaica, I kited like a drunk driver. I borrowed my friends WLF(which was my old one that I sold to him) there and it was just too big & heavy for me. Should I get a second board for those big chop conditions or is there an "all around" board out there? I'm a stout lass, not your 90 lb type. I'm agressive with the kite but am mowing the lawn, doing transitions and working on back rolls. That's probably all I will ever do and I'm cool with that. I just want to have fun, I'm not looking to compete, be in magazines or impress anyone.
Brunotti Pro Princess?
Liquid Force Aura?
Slingy?
Jimmy Lewis?
Help.....

Hi M,
Nice beach pic !!
.....my 2 fav boards that I mostly use are my HEIN and an Ocean Rodeo ZEN 129x39 ( + I've found for my small gal feet the combo of O.R Bliss pads + NSI proton straps to be kick arse~ very easy to tighten the straps on the fly)~
I got my OR Zen from windance...maybe they'll let you demo one~
Good luck !!

I'm not a chick, but I love my Jimmy Lewis twin tip. I ride surfboards 95% of the time, but when I want to ride a twin tip, Jimmy's boards go through the chop better than any other board I've ridden, and have good pop as well.
I have a 137 Charger. Sweet board, and they are really light. Only downfall is that they are a bit fragile as far as nicks and dings.

Hey Mel, Chop is Chop and when it's bad, there is nothing you can do to avoid it. The stiffer the board the worse it's going to feel.
A 134 Recoil is probably a good board for you as an all-around.

Usually try to stay away from vrs threads...cause everyone is going to like what they ride.
Demo some boards....Pepi carries a few different boards you can demo. If there is a certain one your looking for ask the local reps they almost always will hook you up.
I wouldn't worry about getting just a "girls" board. There are lots of great boards.

If you can, demo a bunch of boards on the same day so that the conditions are the same.

I demo'd a North Jaime board ('07 I think, grey with half naked girl on the bottom of the board) from Big Winds and fell in love with it instantly. Its obviously not specifically designed for women, but that shouldn't stop you. It's so light and loves to jump. Its pretty flexy so it does well in chop. I used to ride a LF Recoil, but it wasn't for me. If I see you on the beach you can try mine out, or go demo one.

You described my riding style
'mowing the lawn, doing transitions and working on back rolls. That's probably all I will ever do and I'm cool with that. I just want to have fun'
i have messed up ankles, knees and lower back from old injuries, hate chop "pound" OR mako boards have worked really well for me - they have a very smooth ride especially the narrower one - if you are demoing a few boards give them a try too. They look a bit different so may lack 'coolness' but ........

One of the best feeling "all around" board I ave ever ridden is the JL. It is very comfortable, edges EXTREMELY well and also is very carvy. That said, it didn't have much pop- maybe the newer models are better.
downside to the JL, they are expensive and they are very fragile...Almost too fragile.
As forrest said, the recoil has also been a really popular board.
I hope that this helped.

I love my Hein board, but like Nicole said demo a bunch of them and see which one really speaks to you. I instantly fell in love with my board but everyone has a different style and needs. Good luck! Tonya

What size was your Aura?
My wife loved her 2008 Aura 127 so much, I just bought her another one (thanks Pepi).
I am selling the old one for $200 with Stiletto straps/pads.
I'll be at the Windance swap meet on Sunday.

More rocker and concave will fix your chop problem Mel. I agree with the Jimmy Lewis and Ocean Rodeo mako suggestions.

Hi Mel!!
I bought the North Jaime '09 board this last year and I like it!
I had a litewave (rasta board) prior to the North, and lost it last season - so sad, but it was super nice too!
But honestly, being a skier, and demoing just about every ski on the market every season all summer long, I can't encourage you enough to demo. Everybody prefers something a little different?! And once more, I wouldn't just keep an eye out for women's boards, as all boards come in an array of wood, metal, glue, laminate, etc...in varying degrees, you would limit your options too much.
