I was reading the article below about wind power in the Gorge and it states:

“The more we learn about wind behavior, the more you learn about what it’s going to do and schedule the amount of energy you expect as an output, the better you get and the fewer reserves you have to keep,”

http://www.katu.com/news/local/87439577.html

Maybe we will get more and hopefully "free" sensors in the gorge.

I've been thinking about this too. I'm going to bring up the idea of the CGKA sponsoring a sensor at the Sandbar at tonight's meeting.

Ya know how the wind is sometimes blowing 25 in the channel and 10 to 15 less down by the spit.

It would be cool to have a sensor on the North side of Well's Island and the Spit.

I think if you put the sensor on the top of the kite killer you would get an accurate enough reading of the wind. It would prolly read a little gustier than it really was but you would figure out how it read pretty quick. Best way to check the wind is to be at the beach though.

As per the earlier comment, it would be nice to have something up in the cleaner wind on wells island. I would think it would be more out of the way and provide a better idea of what is going on?

Should we start the Sauvie island sensor debate yet again?? Or should that happen after everyone starts getting skunked out there?

$199 seems like a good price. Of course there is still the power and internet issue.

Hey maybe I would be up for sponsoring it. Forrest can you mention that at the meeting tonight?

Dave

I mentioned it as an additional agenda item and it's something the CGKA would like to work on. We've got a todo list a mile long actually and last night's meeting took nearly 3 hours.

I think we might be able to do something with a combination of solar power, batteries, wireless internet. I'm gonna look into it. GeneK is good with electrons, maybe he can help.

The hatchery sensor seems to be pretty good at reading the bridge and wells island.

Forrest... if Gorge.net wont chip in for sponsoring the wireless, I have a buddy up at Hood River Electric Co-op in Odell. They are shooting everywhere in town, including off the bluff in White Salmon, so they could be a possible supplier for the wireless. If you need his number, let me know.

A meter at Viento would give a 'heads-up' for those lazy summer days when the wind line creeps up the river.

Definitely not one at W.Is. .. in fact it might be good if that place was never mentioned on this forum...due to birder (GBH habitat) and trespassing issues. It would be nice to keep that as our own little secret, like the Klic and Secret Spot...Opps!
