Here's your chance to show off the extreme wind range of your flat kite.

The legendary Gorge Blowout is scheduled this weekend.
The 17 mile downwind race will take place either
Saturday OR Sunday, July 8 or 9, 2006 (weather permitting)
as part of the Gorge Cup race series.
Check out www.gorgecup.com for more details.

Uhm...you mean flat as in with a mast and attached to a board? On the NOR page it says 'windsurfers only' like 3 times. Confused

Onad,

Unfortunately it’s not open to kites this year because our insurance is a yachting policy though the windsurfing association and it does not allow us to include the kites.
It’s too bad because it’s more fun when everyone’s included.

Darren

Is the blow out open to kites this year?

Thank you, Onad

The CGKA is looking into a kiter blowout event but these things take time to plan.

Hi Onad -
Our insurance is provided to us by the CGWA, and unfortunately kiteboarding is excluded. In the years since the Gorge Games, the CGKA has organized their own insurance, and from what I understand are currently trying to organize a Kiteboarding Blowout. You could contact Shay at shay@gelfandinsurance.com regarding the CGKA's plans. Sorry and thanks for the inquiry.

why not just organize a casual, unofficial downwind race with no sponsorship, entry fees, awards, insurance, official winners, or starting boat, etc. just the honor system. just make it a fun thing for those who show up. just set a time, do some sort of "rabbit start" and set a finish point. since no one ever practices downwind racing anyways, i don't think it needs to be too precise. if nothing else, it would be good practice for an official event.

hmm...

That seems to be doable.. more so than persuading the Damns to lower the river or to get dog owners to leash up there rovering fecal depositors, or educate people on the preferred beach edicat and launch methods in high water.

When's the date. I'm in.

jp

ps. the down winders from viento to the gay bar have been killer this week...
