Wed Jul 05, 06 1:11 am Waroo poor behavior witnessed on Monday :) |
|
|
If this thread doesn't stir up the bee hive I don't know what will! This past Monday before 4th of July, my pack of downwinders and I saw some pretty awful Waroo behavior at Stevenson when we launched for our downwinder to Home Valley. All three Waroos on the water at the time were self rescuing due to poor relaunch scenarios or other low wind issues on the water. One of my buddies had a Waroo 12 that had poor fly behavior on launch due to low wind. It jellyfished a few times then fell into the water and quickly got itself leading edge down. He got it somewhat re-started a few times but never a successful re-launch. Unfortunately for him he had to swim it in. Since all of my pack was on the water I had an unfamiliar with Stevenson rider/launcher launch me and he tossed my kite into the water. My North Rebel 10 prototype fell on its back just below the embankment. With the kite directly downwind of me I gave it some left bar pressure and pulled up the left wingtip and re-launched it no problem! After watching the same scenario with my buddy on his Waroo 12 fail, there were many a Waroo cool-aide drinker on the sideline taking notice with huge frowns on their faces!

why?!?
You appear to be just another run-of- the-mill best hater that doesn’t deserve the attention they’re craving for....
Day five in a row on the 9m with no issues.
Got my first session on my 7 yesterdays at Secrets. Damn fine kite!
BTW…. Waroo’s do not fly themselves… have you even begun to consider it could be the pilots skill, the pilots set up of the wing…. and not the kite?????

I'm happy for you… you should give the issue a tad more consideration.
In the last 2 days, I've corrected 3 Waroo riders setups on the beach alone.
1) Waroo's don't fly well on stock turbo diesel or cabrina bars... (bars with pulleys)
To be continued..

why would they fly well on a stock turbo diesel bar? I would suspect a turbo diesel will not fly well on a stock best bar. I was out on my 14 waroo with modified td bar and glide when every one else was haveing problems just launching.

Guess who's back...
J. P. is back...
I have to agree, you must set your kite up and tune it, to get the most from it.

Yep, and after it's tuned ya gota know how to fly it. The Waroos love to back-fly (as do most of the flat SLEs) if they have to much rear line tension...

Shred Jim, I noticed this same problem with launchings and landings of the Crossbow and TD at Stevenson, so I don't think it's limited to the Waroo - must be a characteristic of SLEs if they aren't tuned perfectly, or very light wind launch.

The wind for that day was from a very nw direction with almost no wind on the bluff especially early in the day. Tricky to get the kite up and going for everyone.

I'm getting concerned.
I'm thinking of starting a non-profit Union of Concerned Kiters. These crazy new designs are unproven and clearly 30 days isn't enough time to evaluate workmanship.
You know how those gun buy-back programs work to cull dangerous weapons from the community? Well I'll do the same for kites. Just bring your new or nearly new Waroos and bars to me and I'll give you $50.

i have been a bit of a cool aid provider for waroos. let me state that it is the 7 and the 9 that blew my mind. especially the 7, in big surf and high winds, changed gritted teeth riding to relaxed fun riding for me.
i haven't gotten the bigger waroo dialed for light wind. glad to hear some people have.
but the cool-aid is for the windy days....
