The darker the green color, the heavier the rain. Yellow means even stronger rain and possibly a thunderstorm. Red is very intense rain and almost certainly a thunderstorm. When the border of the red section is more defined than shown here, it usually indicates an even stronger thunderstorm. Even so, both red cells shown in the picture produced lightning. Any thunderstorm has the potential to produce catastrophic wind gusts... ( 70 mph or greater. )
