Need some Slingy advice from Slingy Capitol

Hey,

Thinking about another brand bar for my kites. Im looking at Slingy 2010 4 line SLE bar (I guess like the one for the Octane)

Questions are (and maybe for a slingy rep to answer IDK)

1. Can you buy bar separate.
2. What is the throw distance? Meaning, place stopper ball all the way at top and measure how much travel the bar has from CL to stopper.
3. Are front/rear lines equal at full power?
4. Line ends are knot or loop?
5. Is it mini 5th line or just connect leash to ring on depower rope.
6. I heard that there are alot of mechanical parts in CL. Is that still the case for 2010 or has it been simplified (less weight)?

Sorry. I know its a handfull of questions but those in the know hopefully can spit this out. Throw travel may be a pain in the ass question though.

Just to throw out these answers officially from SS.

1. Yes you can buy the bar separate. Currently we are out of stock.

2. Throw distance is 18" long.

3. Front and Rear lines are equal when it is NOT trimmed in.

4. Front lines are 3 knots pigtails and Rear lines are loop to loop pigtails.

5. Leash connects to the C.S.S. Center Safety System which connects to one of the front lines and it will flag out when deploy.

Hey thanks! That really answers everything for me.

I like it alot. I guess if I were to use it I would have to also use the Slingy line set since one front line is much longer and with a OSR handle on it.

Throw is more than enough for what I need.

"unofficial" of course but:

you should know the CSS line or bungy line or safety line as you may call it,
is a separate line from the front line.
It connects loop to loop with the end of the front line, at the swivel.
Both of the front lines are the same length.
But you still may have to use SS lines if you want through the bar safety, unless you want to do some splicing.
The SS front lines, which are very nice and strong, do not have sleeves around the bar end, just directly spliced loops.
This lets them make a smaller, streamlined connection to the safety line, so the connection can (usually Wink

) slide through the stopper and the bar to depower the kite when you release it.
If there were sleeves on the line, it would get hung up and not slide through.
Makes it a pain if you want to switch or replace lines, but it seems like a good system, for the most part.
In a pinch you could probably use sleeved lines on the frontlines, but you would have to run the leash directly up to the swivel, instead of through the bar, and lose spinnability Sad

plus you would probably need to make some pigtails to equalize overall line lengths.

Hey. OK I have had a chance to reallly look over the vids and the bar. Here are a few more questions if you dont mind. Thanks so much for answering my earlier questions.

1) Is the CSS line optional? On the non CSS line it looks like a little pigtail attaches to the loop to stop the line from sliding thru the swivel. If I were to remove the CSS line, could I just attach the same pigtail to the remaining kite line and use the bar without the CSS?

2) If I did above, is it safe to attach the leash above the black release (like the 2008 Switchblade bar)?

3) Is the black bungy that holds the release in place replaceable

4) The biggy for me. That big black end piece on the below bar depower line worries me. If I depower the kite, I could have 6-10 inches of line dangling below the bar with that big black plastic piece on it. Is it possible for that to get caught up on the harness or spreader bar so a relase is not possible?

And do the cleats hold the line in place soild with no sliding and no excessive line wear?

Thanks if you have time to answer this. I have never used Slingy gear and am looking for some different equipment for me.
