Crap! Shocked I mean, surfs up! Wink

Update: Tsunami watch for Hawaii is cancelled

NOAA is sure slow on updating their web site. Reuters has current info:

WASHINGTON, Sept 29 (Reuters) - The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center on Tuesday canceled a tsunami watch for Hawaii triggered earlier by a magnitude 8.0 quake off the Samoa islands.

"Based on all available data, a major tsunami is not expected to strike the state of Hawaii," the Center, part of the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, said in a bulletin.

Actually, not a psych for the Oregon Coast. Although it is not supposed too be a tsunami, there will be a 1'-2' tidal surge between 9 and 10pm all along the Oregon Coast. That's a bit of water.

Bad for the low islands. Fire dept. came down the beach, I guess to check it out. I didn't notice anything...well except a kick ass session on a 7.5 cult Smile

Let's remember the difference between imminent risk - significant risk - and just plain need for caution.

i suppose if the warning horn hits you could always kite out to sea and just wait for the tsunami swell to pass under you, then when all shit has hit the fan onshore, you can make your way back and ask "hey what happened here?"
