Mon Sep 28, 09 9:20 pm How you pack your kite |

Just a stupid curious question but am interested to hear.
I always unhook my lines, wash everything separate, and pack everything away after it drys.
My launches range from nice open sandy beaches to 10'x10' rig area. How many of you keep your lines attached to your kite at all times so all you do is pump up and ready you are. I know its all about makin' your own waves, but just curious.

The GURR-ITO - person at each wingtip - kite never touches the ground - the wind holds it up with the leadind edge being pointed straight into the wind - rolled into the tightest little package - good for the ridden hard and put away wet crowd - avoids the sand |

I gotta work for a living. Its riden hard, but put away wet and I dont have a kite for long.
More directed towards the line attached or unattached crowd. _________________ __________________________

| Lines always attached - for the far superior DOWN WIND RIG - Does leaving lines attached make sense with any other rigging method? |

I can't find one logical reason to unhook the lines off a kite..
Except if you have to use the bar on other kites.
Snowkiting has taught me that if you start with frozen fingers
from doing the dangle, unrangle of the lines to hook um up,
then your fingers may be cold the whole session.
I just progressed into leaving the lines on all the time, snow and water.

Usually look for the best spot with few rocks and shell aka the dog shit area.
Carefully roll kite then insert into bag with as few above mentioned treasures as possible.
I try to keep my bar from getting pissed on so I separate it from my kite.
Separation also makes the bi-monthly chicken line replacement a kiteless procedure.
A jetty itself is not a good landing /rigging area however the dogs rarely shit there. Last edited by registered on Tue Sep 29, 09 7:31 am; edited 1 time in total |

There's one in every crowd...
I pack my kites lines on, yet forgo the longitudinal norm... and never ever employ a one pump system..
Pull the LE plug ONLY ,,,fold a wing tip passed the center strut,,, same with the other or twain tip,,
then fold (each side) in half again over the center strut---
Struts still fully inflated---
This package is bag length, yet still too long front to back...
(you're thinking who cares? but I like to share)
I can now reach each strut plug, and the struts have kept the canopy flat---
reach in, pull the strut plugs----throw the bar on top of the LE----roll up LE to Trailing edge---while tucking the excess lines and bridles in as I go...
DONE !! fo style
Yeah, I know you don't get it...
That's ok
I get it
fo
Free thinkers rule... |

shake the sand off and cram it in the bag. If its wet I throw it over the tools in the basement.
I unhook my lines just because I like to get a look at them when I'm running them out. Like most things, it really doesn't matter, they both work. The only time you really need to be anal about rolling up your kite is if it has battens.
But then you have to ask yourself, why does my kite have battens anyways? |

Agree that it really does not matter,
but the lines still have to be unwound off the bar
and can be checked during that process.

Leaving your lines attached saves time each session. Its less work too. I'm impatient and lazy, so its a good fit for me. _________________ Lets FLY |
