Thu Sep 10, 09 10:49 am board leashes in the gorge? |
|
|
Any advice on whether or not to invest in a reel leash for riding in the gorge? I don't like the thought of being tied to the board. If the current is strong enough that I'll likely loose the board if it comes off I might reconsider.
Thanks for the help. |

You should get one, it will definitly pay for itself. But I only use it for emergencys. If I crash my kite hard, I'll hook it up to my board so I can focus on getting my kite back up without my board going way down river. Can be a major board saver, especially when your lines get jacked up or a strut pops, wind shuts down or something. It will happen! Has saved my board a few times.
Don't use it when riding, just get really good at body dragging. If your good at that u can catch your board, unless your at fucking willow grove That place is Satan! If your board had wings it would fly away the current is so quick |

Seems unnessary - if you still have your board leave it on your feet - if it blew off and isn't attached -how does the real leash help?
practice body dragging less likely to get whacked _________________ Go Deep!

Ditto Gman's response....dont get one...they are heavy and why chance having the board hit you.
Just get good at body dragging. It's not that hard to get your board back... the current isn't that strong right now.
Best thing you can do is put your name and number on the board good chance you will get it back then. |

Its convenient. Its True 99% of the time putting the board on your feet works fine, but its handy in those oh shit circumstances. Also Surf boards are alittle harder to keep on your feet, or riding strapless. And if you have to self rescue then u don't have to mess with your board. Done that a few times this year.
I'm not saying use it when riding cause you might get wacked. I wouldn't have it hooked to your board when riding. It just can be helpful to keep your hands free and not lose your board when needed. |

Get one of them balloon Go-Go things....
You don't need a leash in the gorge...
Learn to body drag - it's the cheapest and safest way to go.... |

| Some guys clip their safety line to their board when they need to self rescue so as not to lose the board, I've wrapped a bungee style leash to the back of my harness and used that when I can't relaunch ( wind died, blown strut whatever) and that seems to work fine and stays out of the way. Saved my board from floating away several times. Seems a retractable leash would be bulky and uncomfortable flapping around while your cruising. |

Dude, just go with a gojoe
Will a gojo spring back and hit you in the head? Nope.
Will a gojo get tangled around your board? Nope.
Will a gojo get tangled up while its recoiling back? Nope.

Motto, I am in full support of the gojo over leash, but I think they are more concerned when the shit hits the fan and they are self rescuing. What do you do in that case with the gojo? _________________ MS |

The gojoe helps when you are self rescuing if you get disconected from your board because you can see it from way far away. Whenever I have seen a gojo board floating down the river someone has assisted and brought it back to shore.
Two. I actually keep a second kite leash. I have one that I connect to the kite. And one that just hangs out on the side of me. When I have to self rescue I connect my second leash to the board. I do not ride with that leash - just for self-rescuing. I do keep an attachment point for easy access. If you try and connect your board by grabbing the grab handle or foot strap with a leash the board will auger (spelling) - basically sink and pull you down and then slowly work its way back up.
So I have an attachment point for my extra leash on all my boards. Super easy/cheap to make. Just get some teather (you can pick up some at home depot or ace hard ware). Then shove your screws through the teather. I use washers to help them from coming out. _________________ Still rockin gojos, *ssless chaps, and ankle weights! |

Nice, that was the answer I was looking for. _________________ MS |

Will a gojo get you laid? Nope.
I do what Moto does - second kite leash. Comes in handy sometimes.
It doesn't work for that either, though... |

I think it is safe to say that most things that have to do with kiteboarding are not going to get you laid. It could fill the void for a while. _________________ MS |

Does leaving the gojo in the store get you laid? Nope.
If you're looking to get laid perhaps don't spend so much time on the water with a bunch of other dudes |
