Fri Aug 28, 09 1:31 pm Be respectful of the Event site 5 mph zone. |

We have done a good job this summer. But, please remember that there is a 5mph zone directly in front of the Event site. This goes for Kiters, and Windsurfers. Please stay out of that area.
We (the CGKA) have a meeting planned with the Waterfront Rec. committee. We hope to get more space for pumping and drying. By the way, GREAT job on self policing our little area. Thanks for your help.

Not sure who it is. There is a guy that rides a GK rasta kite that wears a mask. Yes a mask! I'm guessing so no one will know who he is. Anyway he rides like an ASS! Kite looping directly in front of windsurfers and kiters alike. I have seen him at the sandbar a number of times. If anyone knows this masked marauder please inform him that
A: riding with a mask on makes you look like a douche bag
B: riding like an ass confirms douche baggery |

I hope this thread doesn't turn into a witch hunt of names because the rider in question name is Mann and in my opinion he doesn't seem to be that much of a safety issue.
He definitely rides aggressive but I would rather see the CGKA post about speed limits and overall riding area details instead of limiting a man's style (yes pun intended) as long as you play within the rules and don't 'eff it up for everyone else.
So Mr. Barnes....what are the rules about riding around the Sandbar now that the kiddie pool is gone???? Anyplace outside of the yellow cone is fine etc??? |

Mark CGKA thanks for getting us on the spit. It's nice to have the option.

Rules ( a little off topic )
How many fking rules are there for this location ?!
Do you need to bring legal representation to get them all understood and explained !
Rig up your kite , launch it , ride it , land it , pack it up and go for beer and discuss your session with fellow kiters etc. and do it all safely for your own good as well as others . What else could there be ?
Bad enoufgh to travel down there and see that some people get to launch from grass others have to wade across a waterway ( ok a few feet of water is not going to kill me but where's the equality we all fight for )
There are thieves there , there are people who just don't like to see others having fun so they want more rules , there are just plain assholes out there . This is life isn't it
All these fukin rules are not going to change that .
Orsen Wells was right and it scares the fuck out of me
I was at Hood river a few times and each time there are more people and rules so don't worry I'll do my part and stay the fuck out of there and all you sheep can carry on protected by your rules .
If I take someones spot on a wave at the coast I'll pay for it . An unwritten rule has more effect because it comes from my peers and I'll be banished , that hurts.
Some city or town councillor sticking their nose in my life sickens me in all ways !
Sorry , does it show that I have authority issues ?
Have fun all and remember break at least one rule a day to save our freedom . Isn't that what soldiers gave the ultimate sacrifice for , it surely was not to have politicians decide what's best for me in my opinion which is only my opinion
Here in Canada it's no different though maybe even worse as people here are really lame at defending their rights .
Ride with your mask on , loop where you can and fuck those that dont like it! |

Jack, none of us like the rules; you're preaching to the choir. But to expand our access we have to live by the rules the controlling agency sets. Last year, we couldn't even pump up or dry a kite at the event site. This year we can. That's a good thing. Nobody is supposed to be launching off the grass. Yet. If the port sees that we can follow the rules, we'll probably get better access. That's also a good thing. If a few bozos ignore the rules, we'll all pay for it and lose ALL access. That's a bad thing. Pretty simple really. The rules themselves are also simple. Inflating & drying kites only in the designated area. No rigging or launching at the event site. No riding in the restricted area.
Obviously, we'd ALL like to have less restrictions at the event site. That's a no brainer. Ignoring the rules will just get us banned--again--from the event site.
Thanks CGKA for your efforts on this! |

| I'd like to know where the guy got the mask? I've been in the sun too much and think it's great for sun protection. I've seen a guy with a neoprene one too. Any info on these would be great. Any non camo models? |

Coming off the spit yesterday around 5ish, there was some young dude hucking huge air, doing back loops --- all directly in and over the wade through area between the rocky point north & east of the Event Site and the sand bar (where we all cross). He was going back & forth repeatedly.
The tourists were all gathering to take pics, and it looked like there was a pro photographer in the water below him taking shots of his aerial acrobatics.
Granted, the kid is damn good - but I wonder if he knows pulling off shit like that could limit access for ALL of us. Even pro riders can f@ck up; there were also kids swimming near by and plenty of folks standing around. If an accident happened - caused by a high flying show off - the rest is history. |

The 5mph zone was established because of the number of kids that practice windsurfing right in front of the Event Site. The area isn't as clearly marked as it once was due to shifting sand, but it is still in effect.
If you think you have more of a right to ride through that area than the right of the kids to safely practice windsurfing within the optical range of their parents, please see me on the beach directly for an adjustment. |

You can ride the whole river! The Port has asked both the Windsurfers and Kiters to have a 5mph zone right in front of Event site. This is the same zone that was established years ago. _________________ Cleverly disguised as an adult...

I've seen this guy riding and I think it's a paintball mask. I know people who are allergic or sensitive to the sun, and one of them rides in a clean room suit ("bunny" suit) that he 'acquired' from Intel. It looks goofy but he doesn't care what people think because it reflects the sun and lets him ride. (Sorry to get OT). |

Very cool. And since we cannot launch from the Event Site for the majority of the season it seems pretty much game on around the Sandbar as long as we use common sense riding etiquette that would be standard at any location. Am I interpreting the 5mph rule correctly? |

Yes. Nothing has changed. All the Port wants is to respect the zone right in front of the Eventsite. The zone is displayed on the big river map sign. _________________ Cleverly disguised as an adult...

I love when people travel all that way to get here...then bitch and moan. They are almost as annoying as the people that learned to kite 4 months ago and now feel the need to bitch and snitch about this and that offering their "informed opinion" about how it should be.
Just follow the rules and quit your fucking crying. If you have beef with someone than go up and tell them yourself, don't get your diapers all dirty, run home to log on and then get in your wambulance. |
