I did one the other day just goofing around, but then I couldn't repeat it. Can you do air-jibes, I think it's something like that.

Like a jump steer the board up wind and then transition the kite overhead. As you you do that rip the board around with your feet.

I don't think "whip" is the correct word.
When I try to whip the board around I fail more often than when I just take it slow and try to push it around.
Plus, its way easier in the glassy water between waves than the choppy gorge.

Or you could just be cool like Gman and switch your feet on the lip of the wave... Rolling Eyes

Whoa! Embarassed Deep breaths Jahmbi, you should be getting some wind again, finally, this weekend. Laughing

I think what the ever-nurturing Troll meant to say was; start with regular tacks as opposed to those 'duck' tacks. The timing does not have to be so exact. Work on them when your fairly lit so that the upward pull of the kite gives you more time to work the board around. It often takes a big power stroke at the end or even a down loop to keep you from plopping.

Good luck! Thumb's Up

yeah - what Slither said

sort of three variations

easiest tack
- slow down and shove the board around with your feet

harder - sky tack
- carve hard and dangle and hop to switch your feet

500 club - duck tack
- half a front roll with the bar over your head "ole" style - I'm only at 100 attempts - definitely a work in progress - look forward to whipping it out

Yeah--I was going straight to option 3. Will start at #1 and work my way up.

a few things...

You have to carve the board hard up in to the wind to slow you down/stop and to start redirecting the board... not so much 'flick' it around or you'll go flying past it.

Use the kite transition to unweight yourself. My problem learning it is that I wasn't putting the kite back soon enough. I've seen lots of other people do the same error.

Use your initial front foot to pull the board under your body before you switch.

learn it strapless... much easier.

I agree with the strapless comment. I have had luck in lighter winds with the regular tack (no duck) pushing the board through straight upwind. Sometimes the board will sink but I have found if you keep pushing through when you get powered up in the new direction you can recover and head off on the new tack. That being said I'm only at about 60%.
