Had my third day ever kiting down at Floras this last weekend. Took a most excellent lesson from Will and stayed at his fabulous B&B. Perfect conditions, for me at least. Floras rocks. Will be heading that way in the future.

Learned a bunch. One, a no brainer: the quickest way to figure this incredible sport out is to go kite as often as possible. Two: I'm going to loose contacts every other session...

Did some searching here and found that people recommend sea specs more then anything else. Couldn't find much about prescription specs. Anybody have them or recommend them? I see Lasik in my future but not anytime soon. Any other suggestions? Thanks

I've had prescription Oakleys and silverfish. Both are good quality but I definitely recommend the silverfish - http://www.silverfish.com/kitesurfing.htm with a neck strap. It is a lot less expensive than oakley and do well with crashes.

Talk to the folks at "A Sight for Sport Eyes" in downtown Lake Oswego. They've got Rec-Specs, made famous by John Salley back in the Pistons' late '80s heyday (my old climbing partner Frank also swore by them), as well as a number of other brands of prescription sport goggles/shades...

My experience with SeaSpecs wasn't great.
Ordered a prescription pair but didn't try them or use them for a while as I was waiting for my old glasses to wear out, which they finaly did. Put on the new Seaspecs but something wasn't quite right. Got a bit dizzy!
It turns out when one lens was working, that is polarized, the other wasn't. Somehow the two lenses had the polarizing at 90 degrees to each other!
Contacted Seaspecs but the warranty period had expired. I told them yes but someone screwed up in manufacturing. They said,"sorry, good bye"!

Since then, a crack has appeared from one corner and it now about an inch long.
This without even wearing them.

Oh well, $195 not well spent! Like the product but don't really want to send them another $195.

Don't like to air "dirty laundry" but just a heads up to check them carefully and use them right away.

My experience, which I previously posted, was terrible. I had them measured by my eye doctor and they didn't match the prescription I sent the glasses back and they returned them after a long delay which made dealing with the credit card company harder. I recommend getting the glasses where you can see if they are working properly. SPEX are good but they are slow. My latest pair from Walmart work fine and and I picked out the frame before ordering and checked that they worked when I picked them up
SeaSpecs prescription goggles are to be avoided, their service is really poor.

I used to spend $200 on 'scripty glasses about once a year.
I usually would step on them or lose them...
Then I had a horrific crash at Rufi sending my knee into head... I came up and could see my glasses shattered, spiderwebbed and then the blood... When i got back to shore, my buddie had to help me pull my glasses off my face as my brow was attached to the broken frame and glass.. yeah not fun.. lucky to have my eye
I'd been scared of laser.. but this made me think
Then I got to do a shoot with the crew from Clearly Lasik. The doctors are all cutting-edge trained professional, yet young and cool.. yeah whatever
But the staff is what made it for me.. All completely gorgeous ladies... redheads, latinas.. Nurses, receptionists, assistants...you name it, all hot, funny as hell and like to throw down!
After a few beers, I was convinced! Lasik is Clearly for me!
So keepin it short
Broke my heart
Got the hook up on the lasik, didnt hurt, cristal vision that day...
3 years later, no problems
I paid a little extra and got the "lifetime guarantee" where if I ever fall below 20/20 they will re-do it
Oh.. and I only had it done on one eye. The other wasn't so bad, and after the lasik , it adjusted back to 20/20 naturally! Sweet
Anyhoo my two Cents
glasses suck

Cheap sunglasses or safety glasses with cat strap works for me, keeps the contacts in and I don't care so much if they get lost in a crash.

More people seem to be satisfied with Silverfish than any other company. They have more styles to choose from. Also, they have an excellent testimonials page.
