Tue Jul 28, 09 12:04 pm kiting question - self rescue |
|
|
I saw this question, I can't remember where... but
during self rescue, if you have a suicide leash
attached to your CL, what do you do with it?
It's been so long since
I self rescued, I can't remember,
and not sure if I ever did it right.
attach to front line?
attach to rear line?
leave where is?
attach to board? (what if wind comes back?)
thanks! |

Probably it depends on what kind of & stage of self rescue you are at
as well as conditions...
if your kite is deflated it is a non issue- use it for your board while you wind up lines.
if your kite might possibly relaunch you want it to flag out on a line
not load up on your chicken loop and relaunch. (objective) while you wind up lines
i would wind up several lengths (at least once or more kite leading edge length) of back/outside line so the kite can not power up with your chicken loop attached to the other outside line and then when your sure it is unable to relaunch you can use it to keep your board with you as you wind up lines. DO NOT WIND UP LINES EQUALLY.
possibly you could just wind up same amount (1 or more Leading edge length)
of one side of line CL but is it worth the chance...
im sure others will weigh in with some other ideas or advice.
Great question hope this is helpful for others _________________ Wainman rabbit demos available. Let me know |

Good discussion.
There seems to be several different opinions on the best self rescue techniques.
Wrap you lines/don't wrap them, use them as an anchor to your board etc.
Self rescue on a pulley bar kite vs non pulley bar.
What is the quickest/bes self rescue technique? How to assure you won't have a kite reincarnation?
What's the best way to teach a beginner self rescue? |

Here's a link to some pics and tips, including upwind/ offshore winds technique and R.A.F.T. (Roll And Friggin' Travel?) method for a blown LE.
(sorry, couldn't embed this in a post... )

If its a mellow situation, wind one line a kites length (20-30') then the rest.
If its bad, just pull yourself up one line and get to the kite, then wind them up.
Know where to grab the bridle beforehand- usually short bridle systems are where it connects to the line. Longer bridle systems (cabbys and such) are usually around the 1st V from the center (nose) of the kite. This makes a big difference in efficiency, so find the "sweet spot" and you'll be lit!
I would imagine the whole ordeal is real tricky in the current you guys deal with.
practice, practice, practice. |

Why would you have your leash connected to Craigs List? |
