| I am heading to Greece in early June. Has anyone kited Mykonos or Santorini? I plan to check out Paros and stay around Pounda, but wasn't sure what the other islands had to offer. |

I think later in the summer is when you get the "meltemi" winds where it's hot and cranks NE everyday. Not sure about June, but I bet you'd score some sessions.
I've kited at Lousta outside of Athens, and I've windsurfed on Paros and Mykonos back in the day. Santorini is awesome, but I can't remember any sailing going on. Paros is the main destination for wind, and I think Mykonos is pretty windy too. Those would be 3 good picks for islands to visit...
Shorelines in greece tend to be rocky and many of the beaches are in protected coves....so you kind of half to stick with the known spots, or get creative with your launches.
You should be able to google all the info - they're pretty into it....and if it's not windy just sit around and eat and drink Mythos! |

Hi,
I've found your post from April this year where you mentioned Lousta outside of Athens as a kiteboarding spot. In couple of weeks I will travel to Athens for two weeks and I hope I can score a local sesh. Since this will be my first trip to Greece -ever - I would appreciate any tips regarding both Kiteboarding there as well as wind conditions I can expect in August.
Is the wind reliable? or is bringing my gear too much of a gamble?
Thanks,
Milosz |

Yes, I think August is the best month for wind...and it's the NE Meltemi's that blow like a blast furnace everyday. This wind pattern blows across Athens and pretty much all the islands...
Poros has a special wind tunnel set up that makes it a good destination island for wind. Mykonos also is know for wind.
Anywhere you can find launchability along the East side of Athens has good potential in the NE winds. But Loutsa has a little shop and a bunch of riders that kite there. It's a tight, gusty little launch, with urchins...but fun...especially on the lighter, steadier days.
I found a lot online in 04...there's probably tons more now. I hear they are having a wicked hot summer this year with lots of fire trouble. |
