We've discussed Fern Ridge before, but only hypothetically. Is anyone on the NWK Forum actually doing it, and if so, I'd love to know more since I live in Eugene and hate fog..

I tried it Thursday, but there was maybe 3 knots of wind, so the kite never left the beach. Done it a bunch during the winter, some really fun times. I'd be up fro trying it this weekend again. PM me if you want to meet up.

fern ridge is definately eugenes premiere kiting detination, perhaps the suavies island of bluegene.

being so it is important to have the most elusive ingrediant for kiting adequate wind and in addition a large kite.

the real tool for fern ridge is something to do while you wait...frisbee... unless adult beverages is you time burner:lol:

unless you are really motivated and sail off downwind because of lack of up windable wind.. Wink

i still have some machines around if you really want to dominate the scene.

good luck and respect the rules of the launches.. be prepared to be admired by the local recreational boat scene.

if nothing else the permanent new line colors from the murk will always identify you bars from other none ditch riders.

in defense of newports fog..the fog it a nice change from the valley heat and you don't see so many sharks.

Theres plenty of wind to kite often, its just that its only for about an hour or two and from 4-6pm. Its all thermally driven so the temperatures need to be right. Then there is the annoying part of not having launches with adequate wind to get out on the lake, most of the wind (when available) is on the middle of the lake. However, when the stars do align, its pretty awesome, warm water, and like said before, many people that have never before seen it in their entire lives, so even if you are kind of a beginner, you still feel like a pro!
