Hey Everyone,
The water is forecasted to get higher and higher....
The Port will be marking up the grass for launching and landing starting tomorrow.
Launch from the left side (port, west) and land on the right (starboard, East) side. |

Feedback from the Port - they are watching and see 2 activities that threaten our access.
Things are going well - but 2 areas need improvement.
1. Social Distancing - people are clustering and hanging out.
Better to get your kite on and get outta there - Please!
2. Kiters must launch and land where the arrows are painted on the grass .
Please - if you see people launching in the wrong place - be polite and explain the proper system. |

Actually.... in my experience..... it's a group of locals who consistently launch west of the bathrooms in the no-kite zone. They all foil and they are all lazy.
The west end of the grass has better wind and deeper water.
As for Social Distancing - you either get it or you don't. |

I kite elsewhere but just wondering... if the west has better wind and deeper water, why isn't it the launch area? Safety should be paramount.

Absolutely, this looks like something that should be re-visited. I kite elsewhere as well these days, but during KB4C it looks pretty obvious that the West end of the grass is a far safer launch area. |

Having kites launch upwind from the windsurfers would be a bad idea.
Any issues with launching and landing and the kites would fall down on the windsurfers.
Recipe for a huge disaster.
So the whole process hinges on windsurfers upwind and kiters downwind.
Historical perspective. - windsurfers via the original CGWA contributed huge $$$$ to build the Event Site as it is today and they deserve a great place to launch.
Also - 90% of the time we have people launching from the grass the sandbar is useable.
Yesterday was a good example - about a third of the people were using the sandbar.
It’s good to have both grass and sandbar in play- it facilitates social distancing and avoids clusters. |

Seems like it's time for everyone to launch from the same west end spot. Kiter's and windsurfers. Especially now that we are all one CGW2.
