Will be in Newport over the weekend with non kiting extended family. I know South Beach Park is good to check out. We are staying in Nye Beach area. Anyone kite in this area? _________________ CGKA Member |

"Feed a man a fish he eats for a day, teach a man to fish he eats forever."
Answer a kiter's questions about kiting Nye Beach, he might kite for a day. Inform/teach a kiter how to use the search function above on this website, and he learns how to access good information and gets answers to his own questions about kiting forever.
Click on to the search function, type in "Nye Beach and click on the dot for "search for all terms", hit enter and start reading what pops up.

go down 5 threads/posts and read the wisdom of a fallen local Newport kiter (Steve aka Mocean. RIP buddy!).
Mocean used to be the sheriff in town with his deputy, Windian. Now Windian is the new sheriff in town, so to speak. PM him for specific info and answers to questions you may have. I'm saying you're probably going to be leaving your family and going kiting by yourself at south beach or Beverly Beach; better yet bring them along.
And when in Roman do as Romans do ie watch what other kiters are doing down at the South Beach day use access point (grass area only for pumping up and takedown and drying. . .no landing or launching) and or ask questions if you're confused.
Good winds and have fun! |

We stayed at The Whaler on Elizabeth right at Don Davis park a couple of years ago. Nice beach access down the cliff. Kited there too, pretty fun little setup. Hit up Cafe Munro for great food and atmosphere, usually live music and great for adults and kids. |

Hope you got the goods during your stay in Newport area. Been pretty good lately till today, now it is hot, glassy and smokey. Lots of kiting to be had around here beyond SB so look elsewhere if it is not happening at the usual spots.
