Yes the air temp was hot but the water temp at the Wunderbar is about 50. So who goes cruising by me? A kiter with a pair of trunks and a harness, thats it! 30 minutes later I do a jump, crash, boom and spend 10 minutes in the water in my 4.3 retrieving my board. I got to tell you I was chilled and my muscles were slow moving. We owe to our brothers on the beach before they go out to tell them the swimming portion of their session could kill them. By the way Laird, the wind came back 30 minutes after you left the Wunderbar. It was a sublime session, hope you got round 2! _________________ moondog |

Natural selection at work. Seriously though, if you see someone going out like that yell at them, make them feel how idiotic they're being. I know youth is wasted on the young and they feel no pain etc etc, but my feet start to ache a bit from the cold water and I have 3m booties on.
Submerged in 56 degree water (according to http://westpacmarine.com/samples/Hypothermia_Chart.asp), you'll have 9 minutes before exhaustion/unconsciousness occurs without a life jacket.
9 MINUTES!! that's one tangled kite, that's one broken line, retrieving a rogue board, or anything besides a trivial kite hits the water event.
Please yell at these blokes, immasculate them in front of their friends, kick them in the nuts, do whatever you have to but don't let them go out like that! People die every year kiting, and it's idiots like this that give kiting a bad rep. |

Thanks "ride the wave", I was looking for a good chart on hypothermia. That is a good wakeup call. It would be nice to have that chart posted at the event site for the "clueless"! _________________ moondog |

Yeah yeah live and let die. It's always the over- confident ones who end up dead, Hubris brings them down.
Then there will be all this crying here about what a great guy he was, instead of an idiot. |

Come on, Moon Dog. A sign about cold water? The idiots don't read anything anyway, let alone follow the "rules" or have proficient skills before going out in the river. We rescued an idiot last season who was pretty close to being barge bait. Once in we asked him if he knew how to do a self-rescue. OF COURSE NOT. Darwin rules but these are the idiots who will get it shut down for everyone else. Yelling & Berating does not work. Kiters should have some kind of certification and a signed waiver to be allowed access and wear a wrist band to indicate it...if not - go play somewhere else.
And the wind drama continues..... _________________ Be kind to Kooks |

Oh no, the every growing group of skill suspect, highly intermediate kiters in the Gorge are turing to calling others idiots... Hmmm, something about glass houses comes to mind. |

how the lame fat guy in the back is bitching about how idioticly dressed those two girls are instead of minding his own bussiness and enjoying the day,
thats what were talking about... they better make a sign ..stage off confusion.
maybe we could get mandated certified clothing lines for temperature and seasons. |
