Tue Jan 22, 13 8:22 am Compression Bag? |

Packing for trip to La Ventana! I have been looking into compression bags to reduce weight and kite volume. I have read positive and negative experiences with the bags. The two compression bags. I am looking at are the X3 and Dakine. Just wondering how they worked for you? Thanks to all who offered me advice on kiteboard travel baggage!!

I have 2 from Dakine. I got 2 kites without bags and these are really nice. You gotta fold your kites a little nicer then you would with a regular bag, but for travel you already know that.
I would say that it takes the volume of a kite and necks it down to half of regular.
One suggestion. If you can buy in person inspect the bag. One of the 2 had a compression strap that was not sewn. 3 outta 4 straps work on one of my bags. Other than that they are nice I can put 2 kites in one regular kite bag. |

Compression bags do not reduce the weight of the kite.
I bought bags from Walmart for compression. Use your vacuum. But when you come home good luck finding a vacuum in LaVentana.
I ended up compressing the bags by sitting on them and sucking the air out with my mouth..
Now I don't use them at all. I use the kite folded up as padding inside my board bag.
I would say the only reason to use them is if you want to put them into a small pack for carry-on or to fit into your regular luggage. |

Get a PVC end cap that fits over or in the hole in your compression bag. Once you find the right size drill a small hole to fit the end of your kite pump hose. Hook the hose on the deflate side of your pump. No vacuum needed. |

i havent used compression bags. To save space i lay kites on top of each other (big kite on bottom, then med kite, then small kite), roll 'em up, stick them in one bag. Maybe doing this, plus compression, will be a real space saver. Honestly though, Id rather pay some bucks then stress about my gear (specifically the little necks on on the one pump) getting messed up.

I have a Mystic 155 Golf bag. In the bag I have
150 Slingshot Ignition all hardware removed.
9 m T3
11m T3
14 m T3
Dakine seat harness with hook removed.
Pro-Motion Impact Floatation vest.
Changed Stock bags to Da kine Compress Bag. I have not compressed them, nor will I. In this case it only saved on weight. Changing to the lighter bag save about 2+ lbs.
Weight is 49.5 lb.
That Golf bag has has enough volume to stick in my 17 m with all the gear listed below.
If they let me have 75 lb bags without over charge, all the gear will fit in it.
In suitcase
Two bars
Wetsuit
Booties. Sea Urchins hurt when stepped on.
Repair Kite
Helmet
Board Hardware. |
